| My Papa and Granny Hayes lived on a 207 acre farm in Cook County Georgia. They raised ten children (five boys and five girls) in a three bedroom one bathroom farm house. Papa was a farmer. He grew tobacco, cotton, peanuts, corn, soybean and at one time raised hogs and had over 200 cattle. Granny was with no doubt the best country cook in the south. You never went hungry at Granny's. She taught me to bake an egg pie when I was about eight years old and I still remember her recipe & technique. She loved to fish and I remember seeing her hundreds of times with a cane pole and a 5 gallon bucket sitting on the bank of the pond behind their house. |
