FLORA Y FAUNA
For being neighbour to the National Park Laguna de Lachua and having its proper area of virgin rainforest, finca Chipantun boasts a great variety of flora and fauna. Jaguars, howler monkeys, toucans and macaws, to mention a few of the animals present,  have been spotted regularly.  Within the forest there is a small lagoon, an old river arm, where crocodiles and turtles can be seen.  Cacao trees originally planted by the mayas around there tumbs can be found along with all kinds of plants and trees, some of them so rare that they have not yet been named by botanists.
CHIXOY RIVER, EL PEYAN
The Chixoy river is navigable where it passes the finca.  The biological quality of the water is very good because of the absence of any significant contamination in its watershed.  The presence of fishes like robalos, crawfish and many others  are indicators of the purity of the water.  About 45 minutes upstream in a motorboat one gets to a real beauty spot in the Chixoy river called El Peyan, a narrow canyon of calcareous rocks in some places not wider than 15 feet.  Apart from the attractive landscapes and interesting rockformations one can enjoy a great variety of birds.
LAGUNA LACHUA
The National Park Laguna Lachua covers an area of about 16,000 ha.  From the parks entrance you walk about 4.2 km to the reach the place where bathing is allowed.  The lagoon with its crystalline water has the form of a perfect cone with a depth of 240 m and a diameter at the surface of 2.5 km.  The watertemperature is very comfortable; it remains constant at 24  degrees Celsius the year around. The origin of the lake is a mistery; a meteorite hit is one of the theories.
