Home Go Away |
I was born in Nebraska, but I grew up in Colorado and then moved out to Seattle, Washington, for schooling. I really liked my program and have several good friends from those years.
But after 3 years, I had a degree and wanted to get
out. The long term prospects for someone with a Ph.D. from my program followed paths
that I did not want to take. I contacted one of the professors where I did my undergrad. He pointed me to a firm in Chicago doing consulting with drug
companies. Two years there, and I moved out to help in the California office. It was
nice to be living in the Bay Area.
After a bit of searching I landed a winner of a boyfriend. Believe it or not, we met through the internet on match.com. After a year of being together, he moved out of town to teach in Dallas, but we had the resources to see each other every couple of weeks. Sometimes we were together so much that we forgot that we were not living together. I fixed this issue with a move to Dallas in July 1998.
I kept my old job, but did a lot of telecommuting. I spent 61 days out of town from October 1 to the end of the 1998. The first quarter of 1999 caught me at home a lot more, but he (my current bf) was teaching 3 nights a weeks, so I was the one home alone.
When school finished May 1999, we started going to Western dance lessons at the RoundUp in Oaklawn. We are now almost comfortable doing the two-step and have picked up several line dances. In the fall of 1999, I had a 24 day stretch with 3 nights at home--training, weddings, conferences and a trip to Yosemite all kept me on the road, but Gerardo was with me every weekend.
In the fall of 1998, we moved into an apartment (fotos here) in North Dallas. Two big bedrooms, an enormous master bath and of course a two-car garage. Location was a big part of our decision--we are a short walk from a Starbucks, and this is something important to my current boyfriend.
In 2001, Gerardo got a new job in Salt Lake City and of course I had to go with him. After a crazy weekend in April 2001, we found a house and bought it. We moved in in early June into a cozy 3 bedroom 2 bath house in the Avenues. I expect we will be here for a couple of years.
When I was in the Bay Area, I was a member of Rainbow Recreation--a group of guys in the South Bay that organizes hikes, ski trips, Lazer Tag and other fun activities every month. I will have to see about doing something like this in Salt Lake--when I am in town.
