Meeting Minutes
Mar. 1, 2005 Minutes
The speaker system has been purchased for $200.00 and is being used for this meeting.
Treasurer reports we have 88 members at this time. Don also reported that the treasury is the same as last month minus the cost of the speaker system.
Orders are being taken for club hats, to be sold for $2.00 to members. Don will order 3 dozen so we have some on hand when needed.
Election of officers,  a motion was made to keep all officers the same, except for Vice President. LeRoy Venn was nominated and elected for Vice President and Assistant Show Chairman. The officers are President Al Lilgreen.....Vice President LeRoy Venn.....Treasurer Don Angelbeck.....Secretary Roxy Valtinson.....Show Chairman Hank Mossman..... Assistant Show Chairman LeRoy Venn.
Changes or improvements for the show next year were discussed. A motion was made to use the same point system except for the novice division. They will have first, second, and third in all catagories. The judge said in his talk that he likes to see ribbons given to encourage more carvers. Motion was passed.
A motion was made that we give a first, second, and third in all classes reguardless of points, this was not passed.
A motion was made that there be two classes for canes, seperating carved canes from diamond willow canes or walking sticks. This was passed.
A discussion was held about the name of the show should it be a Woodcarving show or Woodworking show or Wood Art? It was unanimously agreed that to call it Woodcarving show.
Audrey Schmaltz reported that we need more volunteers to monitor the roped area. Too many people want to reach over the ropes to touch the carvings or read the comments written by the judge. We should have one person for each side of this area.
Sam Wilson made a motion that the club give Al Lilgreen a gift of $50.00 to thank him for all the wood he provides for the carvers. All agreed.
Changes should be made on the ballots for peoples choice and park choice, to make them easier to understand, possibly one ballot with 2 votes.
There was a discussion about moving the blue ribbon carvings to the front table to make the judges job easier for choosing Judges choice, but this year he had decided before all the carvings were moved,  in a vote of the members it was decided to leave the carvings in their catagories.
A motion was made that we give another ribbon for most points, there could be a 40 point carving that does not get best of show or judges choice, they should get some recognition. This was passed
Hank Mossman had some ideas about changes to make for our fund raiser for Park Place. He suggested having a raffle during the show, using a few choice carvings and sharing the $ with the carver. A discussion was held, if we are going to try an auction again we need more donations, the amount from this years auction was $438, down from 2004. And down more from 2003. It was suggested that we all promote the auction in our parks. It was suggested that we have someone in charge of the auction, Ron Myslowka agreed to do this. He will keep us reminded of the auction during the months before it so we all can have something to donate.Next year the auction will be open to the public.
The ChipChats article next year will be written by the secretary, Roxy Valtinson.
LeRoy made a motion to have a meeting in January before the show to work out these problems and or changes instead of after the show. Sometimes these suggestions are forgotten over the summer. All agreed.
It was suggested that the members of Chip-O-Tex go out to eat using some of the $ in the treasury, a discussion was held and this has been tabled until another time.
Motion to adjourn.
