Revolution Warning!

We have waited until all test results came in before we forwarded this to any other lists. Three weeks ago a lady who bought one of our eskie pups went to her vet for a puppy booster. She inquired about flea and tick products. The vet gave her a new product called Revolution and said the puppy was perfectly healthy. She waited two days and went to another vet for a second opinion. This vet said the product was too new but that Pfizer, the manufacturer, claimed it was safe on puppies as young as 6 weeks old. He also said the puppy was healthy so she went home and administered the recommended dose for a 9 week old puppy. Within two days the puppy was lethargic and had loose stool. Before another 48 hours had passed, the puppy had bloody diarrhea and was bleeding from the nose and mouth. She was sent to a veterinary hospital where they tested for parvo twice and began adminstering IVs. The parvo test came back negative. They did fecal after fecal and nothing came back out of the ordinary. At one point they began claiming it was an intersuption despite the fact that a barium test showed no intestinal blockage.

They repeatedly stated the Pfizer propaganda and said Revolution could not be at fault. They administered no antidotes for toxins. Six days after the initial reaction they decided to operate and found nothing. The biopsies showed nothing and the fecal contained only the normal bacteria found in a dog's stool. They tested again a third time for parvo but the blood work showed no signs of a viral infection. The night after surgery this puppy went into cardiac arrest and died. The internist's final conclusion was parvo, salmonella, or a severe viral infection.

We again asked why he didn't consider Revolution. He had no answer to this or why no other puppies came down with it. He also had no answer to why it didn't show up in the blood or biopsies and basically could not validate his conclusions.

Since this has happenned we have researched and found other dogs have died in Canada, Georgia and Florida after being given Revolution. All exhibited the same symptoms. In each case, the conclusion was something different such as a preexisting medical condition. We have also found that these areas were the main test/marketing areas for this new drug. The vets we have polled are split between giving this drug out like it is candy and waiting as it is too new to trust.

Pfizer's site says they tested it on 1743 cats and dogs, mixed and registered, puppies/kittens and adults. They do not break down the numbers into breeds or ages. They also refuse to answer any calls concerning the product nor do they respond to any letters. We have revised our contracts to include that we are not responsible for any dog from our kennel who is given this product as it has been linked to the deaths of several dogs and puppies of various breeds. We are waiting the outcome of several legal actions which have been filed against Pfizer for use of this product after only six months of testing. This puppy died a horribly painful and slow death which should never have happenned. We hope by telling this it will prevent other puppies and their families from coming through this same devastating scenario.
