I CAN'T BE

I used to think that I was off to be
Something you could need
I used to hold back every tear
If I could only be awake
Instead of live in memory
If I could I'd be right here
It seems it's hope I need and nothing
No, nothing you could bring
Is this for just who I'd be

It always runs from me
Far away and I can't see
It always tears at me
Tears away and I can't be

It's just quiet here and no one left to see
It's just a night alone
An air of silence and regret creeps up on me
And I remain like a stone
"If" is just a word and "hope" is just a feeling
Every day is cold and never comfort giving
All is said and done over and over
But why arent' we living

It always runs from me
Far away and I can't see
It always tears at me
Tears away and I can't be

Maybe I'm just dreaming
Maybe I made a mistake
But I'd rather be asleep
Because it hurts
It hurts to be awake
I don't want to wake
Please help me escape

I used to think it was alright to cry
I used to think I was alright but I
Just can't make it through another day
Without you here there is no one to stay
You'll just run from me
Run far away so I can't see
You'll just tear at me
Tear me away until I can't be
Away 'til I can't be
