A night's journey from Bangalore to reach the western ghats. From Mangalore a road goes along side the sea - you follow north for a while and reach Bhatkal - a small town next to the Arabian sea. Fish fry and the beach near the light house - enough to keep you busy for a whole day. But take a local bus for Nagavalli - if you can manage to get down before the Nagavalli village proper, suddenly you will find an world unknown to the city life. For miles, it's just dense undergrowth - a large number of bird species, thousands of different shades of green. And if you carry a tent - you can as well spend the night there.
