Interviews
Miss Minnesota USA - Dottie Cannon

When did you start doing pageants and how many other ones have you done?
I started doing pageants in 2001. I competed for the American Co-ed system. Its a different pageant system, theres a whole bunch out there. Co-ed but its not boys and girls. Its more the all around girl, shes smart, shes intellectual, she has poise and grace. So its the all around girl, its a great pageant system. I did that and I won it so I was, Miss Minnesota America Co-Ed Teen 2001".

Haha... it must have been a long sash.
Yeah it wrapped all around my body. Also was the first time I did it and so Im like, You know what? I must be pretty good at this. Im going to train for Miss USA. That was my goal and here I am.

So what have you gained for this experience?
I think what Ive gained just in general preparing for Miss USA, a confidence boost. Realizing how great I am as a person because I dont think you hear that enough everyday, as women we dont tell ourselves that. To be in this kind of system where youre constantly improving on yourself. Its not only how you look, its about how you carry yourself, how you feel, how you can communicate with people. Ive developed skills that I can use forever and ever. So its a great venue to tone those skills.

Tell me something about yourself that no one has asked you but you really want people to know.
I dont think a lot of people have asked me about my job. I think the main focus is how we do in the pageant system. I work at Target Corporation. Because Im from Minnesota and the headquarters are in Minneapolis. Target is the best place to shop anywhere, just for everything you need, toilet paper, mascara AND a new outfit. The company to work for in general, the corporation is just amazing, phenomenal. Target is a philanthropic organization and a lot of community giving that people dont know about. I love working there, I love Monday mornings and am bummed out Friday afternoon that I have to go away and cant be around these people that I work with.

So what are your expectations here?
Just to maintain my positivity. Just to make sure that I stay who I am, that's the expectation for myself. I have no expectation on the outcome. Whatever is suppose to happen is meant to be. But for myself make sure I am who I am, stay positive and make friends. Thats it and have a great time.

Why should you be Miss USA?
Why not? You know I have a 1 in 51 chance winning and Im here to make it happen. I think what I can bring to the Miss Universe organization would really help propel the image of Miss USA. Working for target, like I said before, is a really philanthropic organization. To work for Miss Universe, I could bring so many things to the table. Like community giving and how we can better position Miss USA and all the great things she can do. Everything like that, thats why Id be the best Miss USA because not only from the viewpoint of the public that shes a glamorous beautiful woman but the fact that shes a business woman. Its a job first and I feel I can bring it up to the next level.

Special Thanks to Miss Minnesota USA for the interview, it was a pleasure.
