Allan's Thoughts 1/7/07
1. A brand new year of useless thoughts.
2. Today was an eventful CBC day. There was the annual CBC Financial Meeting. I am not a voting member because I do not tithe using checks. However, this may change very soon as I am in the process of starting my own checking account. I am not very happy with the World Savings hours over at Sloat. They close at horrible hours like 5PM on weekdays and 1PM on Saturdays. This bank is essentially not made for people who work or go to school. The only thing they have going for them is their high interest rate on their CDs, which is the only reason I'm still with them.
3. I was happy to see people asking questions. Pat asked the one on my mind: who are these missionaries that we are sponsoring? And how much are they getting? Are they even making progress? I wasn't very happy with the answer given of finding out everything about them later on our own (isn't the whole point of a meeting to give us numbers and progress?), but I took a look at the financial papers afterwards and it was listed as $1400 each for two of the missionaries. I am assuming that is the annual expense.
4. I played tag and volleyball with Brenda. She laughed when she threw the ball at my head.
5. Today was the CBC Olympics. There were lots of people, food, and excitement. The day started off with a bang as we got kicked out of the SOTA track for not having a permit. Luckily, we headed over to SF State to do the track and field events, and the longjump. I ran the 100 meters and was totally burned by everyone. It was so bad that when Peony took the picture at the finish line, I wasn't even in the picture. I did not participate in the tug of war event or the rerun of the weight lifting competition, but many others did. I did, however, have fun in the Ultimate Frisbee competition, with our team comprised of me, Pat K, and all the high schoolers against the college and above team.
Overall, it was a good day of events. I thought it did bring people closer, which is what we had in mind when we started the whole competition. It was meant to have people who normally wouldn't hang out outside of church get together on a Sunday afternoon and just do all sorts of random activities. I think it's finally starting to all come together.
Time to rest my aching legs.
