| CHINCHILLA CAGE AND OTHER STUFF, AND INFO |
| OK. Chins need a really big cage. I recommend a cage about 2x2x3 or about 14 cubic feet, adding 2 or 3 cubic feet for each additional chin. They should be in a METAL CAGE, because chins can chew through almost anything else. The mesh should be at most 1/2 inch gauge wire, because chins can hurt themselves in anything bigger, and baby chins can kill themselves in anything bigger. Also, it should be galvanized wire. Although it may not seem like it, chins do need a WHEEL. The wheel should be at least 14" in diameter. They should also have some platforms to jump on, but no ramps. In the Andes Mountains, they don't have ramps. Chins can jumps really high too. Up to about 30", so the flirst platform should be at least 1 foot off the ground, maybe 2. Chins should haev a water bottle, not a water bowl, and need a special bathhouse with pumice sand, or CHINCHILLA DUST. THERE IS !!!!!NO!!!!! SUBSTITUTE!!!It's pretty expensive, but it's the only way your chin can have a bath. When chins get wet, it can be disasterous. Their fur clumps up for the next few days, and gets all sticky. Remember that any cage or cage parts that are made of plastic, wood, or any other chewable will need to be replaced over time. CHINS ALSO NEED A CHEWING STICK!!!, but lots of kinds of wood can harm them. Also, you need shavings and other wood crap like that. If you know about wood, anything with oils in it are bad, but if you don't, here's a list of some stuff that's bad FRESH PINE, CEDAR, AND OTHER EVERGREENS aren't good for your chin. but DRY PINE is OK. Anything else should be alright. I prefer to use Aspen shavings because they reduce odour, and they don't have any harmful oils in them. Chins need special food. This isn't too hard to do. I use a mix of oatmeal, bran, and other grains. ALFALFA, AND TIMOTHY HAY are needed for the chinchilla, but not in huge amounts. Also, they LOVE RAISINS, and other fruits, but well, raisins are a laxative, and you should only feed them about 2 raisins a week. DON'T USE GUINEAU PIG OR RABBIT PELLETS. IT CAN HARM YOUR CHIN. |
