After another crazy day we finally made it to the
White Swan Hotel in Guangzhou. We almost feel like we are home!
Ok, maybe not, but close!
Let me just tell you how hard it is to type with a 16
month old on your lap! Sorry that didn't last very
long. It is now 9:00 p.m. our time and I finally made it
back to finish this update!
Let's get you all up to date on where we are now. We left for the Hefei Airport at 4:00pm for a 5:30pm flight (can
anyone see where this might be going?) We arrived to
find out that none of the babies had boarding passes.
Oh our guide was hopping mad! She is really wonderful
and went right to work demanding that they fix the
problem and fix it fast! As this was happening
, unknown to us, a big storm was moving in. We finally
got boarding passes for all the babies and headed up
through security. Then security decided that we couldn't
take the strollers through and they needed to be
checked in at the counter! That was strike number two
and Veronica was getting a little up tight. A couple
of Dads took the strollers and went with Veronica to
check them in while the rest of us went on through.
We were all at the gate at about 5:00pm and we then
find out, due to the storm, we will be delayed until
7:00pm. The place was packed, people everywhere.
Roger, Olivia, and I found a small corner and sat on
the floor. Roger got us some drinks and we ate graham
crackers and cheerios for dinner! What great parents
we are turning out to be! :-) They boarded us about
6:45pm and then we sat again. This time on the plane
for another 25 minutes as the lightning was too bad to
take off. Guess who had a window seat? Me! Guess
who loved watching the lightning and would laugh
every time she saw it? Olivia! Olivia was the model
child on the flight. Not once did she cry or fuss.
She loved looking out the window as we were taking off
and just had a grand time. She even sat facing Daddy
and let him feed her, as my stomach felt too yucky to
eat. She played the whole flight and was a tiny bit
afraid on landing, but nothing to talk about.
We get into the airport and are greeted by soaking wet
suitcases and strollers! We had babies who really needed
diapers changed and humidity that would not quit. We
then faced a 40 minute bus ride to the White Swan Hotel in
Guangzhou.
We arrived at the White Swan Hotel at 11:30pm. Babies were crying
and we were not friendly to say the least. I
don't think there was one Daddy who could do anything
right! Ha, ha! We checked in and were told that our
bags would be delivered to our room. At 12:15am our bags
finally arrived. EVERYTHING inside was soaking wet!
Thank goodness that I had put Olivia's p.j.s in the
diaper bag and had her changed and in bed even before
the luggage even got to us. We decided that we were hungry,
as my stomach had settled a little. Roger ordered
room service. Another lesson learned - just don't do
it! The food was bad and it cost us almost $100.00
for two cheeseburgers with fries, two diet cokes and two
cokes. Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you they were made
from gold! Ha ha!
Olivia was awake at 3:30am this morning and just
couldn't go back to sleep. This was the first time
this has happened. She is usually a great night sleeper and has
slept through every night yet. I patted her back and
rubbed her tummy, as we are still having some potty issues,
but nothing big. So I took her out of the crib and she
climbed up on me like a little monkey and would not
let go. We went to sleep and soon I rolled her over
into the middle of the bed and went back to sleep. We
were all so tired that we almost missed breakfast this
morning! |
