Part 38 - Separate

A week after Jia's random celebration, he let us know he was on his way to Okinawa.

"I have to see all the other Japanese heads. With Shido dead and with Seta dead, I have to go and reconfirm everything there."

"Jia, with Shido dead, doesn't that make you what he was?" Asked Tai.

"Ah...so it does. I'm in charge of this entire country. Is it bad when you hold more power then the government?"

Most of us laughed as Gabriel said,

"Well...bad depending on how you look at it."

Jia smiled as he said,

"Well, now I have to go all the way to Okinawa. Which wouldn't be so bad except that it's annoying. Spending a few days there...talking softly, upholding tradition and all that shit. I hate doing it. But I have to."

We nodded as Jia leaned back in his chair...well more like slouched back in his chair as he said,

"I'll be taking my usual people with me. Toki, Mikkie, Aoki. Tai, you'll stay here, help Furukawa of course. Aya to help you...Gabriel of course. The rest of you just have down time."

Aya then tucked his hair behind his ear as he said,

"Shouldn't Furukawa accompany you for this?"

"Not really. He just has to make sure no hell breaks loose while I'm away."

Jia then yawned as he said,

"Okay...I guess we can call it done for now. I'm leaving in two days. So everyone that's coming with me, pack, say bye to your other halves, we'll be gone for a week or so. I gotta meet all these sub heads and shit. God what a hassle. Sometimes I wonder if ruling the world is worth it."

Everyone gave a laugh as Jia then sat up and allowed us to leave.

I went to see Kazuki afterwards and let him know I would be leaving town. I got to his office after a short trip and knocked on the door. Once he allowed me to enter, he looked up as he said,

"Hey...I was expecting someone else."

"You busy?"

"Not really."

He got up from his chair as he allowed me inside. I closed the door behind me as he kissed me. I pulled back almost right away as I said,

"I had to tell you something."

"Nani?"

"I'm going to Okinawa."

"Oh you're going with Jia."

"Hai."

"Ah...my Yuurei gone for a week. I've suffered worse. I think I'll make it."

I shook my head as he stroked my hair back from my face and said,

"When are you leaving?"

"In two days."

"Sou ka. Doesn't give us a chance to do much."

"It's a week, Kazuki not a lifetime."

"It'll feel like a lifetime."

"You're so over dramatic."

He laughed as he kissed my cheek and said,

"I know. So what do you have to do today?"

"I have to book my train ticket. And pack. Then later I have dinner plans with my partner."

"Sou ka. You'll be busy tonight."

"I figure you would have seen enough of me when I wasn't busy."

"Never."

He smiled as then I moved back and said,

"I have to go. I'll try to call you later."

He nodded as he kissed me once more and I left.

After confirming what train and what time we would be leaving on, I booked my ticket and then packed. I left the suitcase by the door as I then changed and went to meet Jun for dinner. I had no great love for Okinawa. It was another city that Jia had won over by default when Seta died. The first time we went there, Jia was what everyone called an upstart. He was the brand new oyabun of Tokyo and now he ruled all of Japan. Every business aspect of the country was funneled through Jia and all of us first. Every other year or so, when Jia managed the time, he went to Okinawa to find out how his other oyabuns were, to see who was alive, who had died, who was running what and where and how good where they running it. It was one of the most boring things we did. Plus we always had to be in traditional garb which was probably one of the only times we got to see Toki out of his usual jeans and a shirt. The next morning, I went to get some breakfast on my own and then went for a walk. As I drank my hazelnut coffee, I got a call from Jun. We met up, walked around for a while and then got some lunch.

"Did you see Furukawa?"

"Yesterday."

He smiled as he said,

"I'm glad."

I rolled my eyes as I said,

"Don't start."

He drank some of his water as he said,

"It's okay if you do like him...which obviously you do because if you didn't-"

"Jun...will you shut up."

He laughed as he said,

"Okay, okay I won't say a word."

I didn't say anything else as I finished up my lunch. Later on, we ran into Jo as he left a corner store with a new cigarette pack in hand. His hair was tied up as usual as he said,

"Konichiwa."

I nodded my head as Jun responded.

"Where you two off to?"

"Just walking. You?" Asked Jun.

"I had to run out and get some cigarettes. It's too early for me to do anything." Said Jo.

"How's your arm?"

"It's good. That scar isn't goin away is it?"

"Iie. You're stuck with that one too."

"Oh well. Adding it to the pile I guess. What time are you leaving tonight Mikkie?"

"Around ten."

"Shit...I kinda wish I could go. But Jia always tells me it's a business meeting."

"You're not missing anything Jo I swear it."

Jo nodded as he said,

"Either way. It would give me something to do later."

He started peeling off the plastic on his cigarettes as I said,

"No, it would just give you a place to be bored later."

He laughed as he opened the cigarette pack and said,

"I guess. Okay I'm going back to bed. I'll see you guys later."

"It's three in the afternoon Jo. Why are you going back to bed?" Asked Jun.

"Because I'm in Tokyo, not New York."

"What's that got to do with anything?"

"Anou......nothing. I'll see you later."

Jo then carefully crossed the street as he walked back home. Jun looked at me as he said,

"What was that suppost to mean?"

I shrugged though I knew fully well what he meant.

Later that evening, I changed into my suit and tie, grabbed my coat and all my other needed items as I got my suitcase and left for the train station. There I met up with Aoki who was already there with Aya and Tai. Tai himself was the one standing, looking around as Aoki and Aya were further away kissing. Aoki had his coat wrapped around him and Aya as the two shared a lover's moment. I joined Tai as I said,

"Kon ba wa."

"Kon ba wa. I'm surprised Aoki's here."

"So am I. But Aya brought him here early."

"Have they been like that the whole time?"

"Just about. They only broke apart to say good evening to me."

I tucked my hair behind my ears as I checked my watch seeing it was twenty minutes until ten. Our train would start boarding soon and Jia and Toki where nowhere in sight. I looked at Tai as I said,

"Did Jia say when he would be here?"

"I spoke to him a few minutes ago. He said he was on his way so he should be here soon."

I nodded as Tai and I stood looking around for a while until we saw Jia's car pull up. Jo got out first as he went around to the other door and opened it for Jia. Our oyabun got out first as Toki followed him. Jo went around the back as he got their luggage out and I went to help him as Jia spoke to Tai, giving him a few last minute instructions until he said,

"I don't know why I'm telling you this, you know what you're doing."

Tai gave a slight smile as he said,

"Not as much as you know Jia."

Jia rolled his eyes as he laughed. He then saw Aoki and Aya as he put his hand in his pocket and said,

"Hey Aoki, we're going for a week not a million years. Say bye to your seiai and let's go. We got a train to catch."

Aoki nodded as he moved his coat back from Aya as he kissed him once more and he grabbed his bags and joined the rest of us. We said good bye to the others there as our train was then boarded. We got inside the train after having our luggage stored and then sat down in our cart as Toki yawned and rubbed his eye. He lit a cigarette as Aoki did as well. Jia got comfortable as I sat across from him and Aoki beside me, Toki beside Jia. Everything was quiet until the train started moving. There, Toki started to whine about how he wanted a drink. Jia paid him no mind until Toki nudged Jia and said,

"I need a drink."

"Toki do I look like I work here?"

"I'm jus lettin you know."

"Don't tell me. Tell someone who works here. And who cares."

Toki stuck his tongue out at him as he then said,

"You love me anyway."

Jia didn't say anything as he slouched down in his seat and Toki smiled. The train ride would take a few hours so in the mean time I managed to get some sleep as Aoki finished his cigarette and rubbed it out before leaning back and falling asleep himself. I woke up later on when I felt something nudge my leg. I opened my eyes slightly as I saw it was just Toki's boot nudging me because he had laid himself out on his seat and put his feet up on Jia's lap. He was sound asleep anyway, his hand over his eyes as his other arm fell off the seat. He seemed to be in the most uncomfortable position but he was still asleep so it couldn't have been that uncomfortable. Jia was laying back in his seat as well, his head to the side as he rested his hands on Toki's knees. Aoki was still asleep beside me, his arms crossed, his sun glasses in place. I sat up as I checked my watch seeing it was close to two in the morning. Just then, I heard a soft announcement that we would be nearing Okinawa in twenty minutes. I tapped Aoki, waking him up as he yawned and said,

"Nani?"

"We're going to be in Okinawa in twenty minutes."

"Sou ka."

He stretched slightly as he looked over at Toki and said,

"How the hell did he fall asleep like that?"

"I have no idea."

I then reached over and woke Jia up. He yawned as he opened his eyes and said,

"What we're here?"

"In twenty minutes."

He nodded as he then nudged Toki awake. After a few minutes, Toki moved his hand back and started sitting up as he gave his cat like yawn and then looked drunk the rest of the time. He was exhausted and rested his head on Jia's shoulder, threatening to doze off again. Twenty minutes later, the train stopped and we were allowed off. We grabbed our bags and soon we stood on the platform of Okinawa Station. There, Suzuka, Seta's second in command and the oyabun of Okinawa stood there waiting for us. He greeted Jia and offered a ride to our hotel. Jia nodded but he also said,

"I'm not that tired."

Suzuka paused for a moment as he said,

"We can't work yet Jia. No one is here other then a few of the other oyabuns from near by."

"It figures."

"Everyone should be here tomorrow morning."

"Sou ka. I guess I can get something to eat. It's been a while."

Suzuka nodded and allowed us in the limo he had gotten to transport us.

By the time we got to the hotel, Toki had fallen asleep again and Aoki was fighting back yawns. I was awake, not very tired though I did want to get some sleep. Suzuka spoke to Jia as he lit his cigarette, telling him how things have been in Okinawa, how everything faired so far. Jia nodded and said he was glad to know everything was fine and smoked, rolling the window down slightly. Once we arrived at our hotel, we got out, Jia waking Toki up as Suzuka said,

"What time should I come pick you up tomorrow Jia-sama?"

"Um...what time is everyone suppost to be here?"

"Around ten."

"Be here at eleven."

"Ah....but-"

"I know. I said eleven. Just be here okay?"

"Hai. I'll see you then. Oyasuminasai."

"Oyasuminasai."

Jia then went inside, the rest of us following him, luggage in hand.
