Gary Schmitt, of the Project for the New American Century, questions America�s willingness to let Communist China into the Nuclear Suppliers Group despite its terrible record on weapons proliferation.  Sadly, Schmitt points to a possible answer: �effort to make sure Beijing looks kindly on American bids� on building nuclear power plants in the PRC.

On the Falun Gong War

The
Epoch Times comments on the slander against Falun Gong by the Australian newspaper 2ac Chinese Daily, and the lawsuit the movement has filed against the paper.  Simon Thomas, Epoch Times, reports on the Pedals for Peace � the children�s bicycle ride in support of Falun Gong victims of persecution � from the road, literally.

On the Velvet Crackdown (Hong Kong)

An unattributed United Pres International piece (via Beliefnet) details the good cop-bad cop approach Communist China is using
to stifle opposition in the city.  Lau Wai-Hing, Apple Daily (via Epoch Times), calls for residents of the city to take to the streets on July 1 to protests the Communists denial of democracy there.

On Taiwan

Ellen Bork, of the Project for the New American Century, notes President Chen Shui-bian�s nod to the U.S. on independence, and calls on the U.S. to
accept the fact that the �status quo� is not in Taiwan�s interest.  Paul Jackson of the Calgary Sun also weighs in, as does Jay Nordlinger (National Review Online, fourth item), and Andrew Perrin (Time Asia).
