Link of the Week
The prize goes to Hannah Beech of Time Asia, for her column on the plight of the petitioners: those who travel to Beijing seeking justice from the Communist regime for wrong committed in their home towns.  Most get nothing for stints in jail, and torture to boot.

On Communist China and Nuclear Weapons
The editors of the Sydney Morning Herald, takes note of Communist Chinas role as a key link in a global trading chain that provided nuclear secrets to Pakistan, which sold them to Libya and, possibly, beyond, and notes that Beijing's standing as a responsible member of the global nuclear club has been seriously undermined (via Washington Times).

On Communist China and Nanotech Weapons
Lev Navrozov, Newsmax, makes another clarion call for the U.S. to get in the nanotech race before Communist China wins by default, with fatal consequences.

On Democracy (the lack thereof) in Communist China
Willy Wo-Lap Lam, CNN, examines Communist Chinese President Hu Jintaos focus on scientific development, and remains skeptical: China can't go very far down the scientific path in the absence of democracy.  John Derbyshire of National Review Online (member since 2002) notes the anti-democratic credentialism of the Communist Party.

On Hong Kong
The editors of the Washington Times take the Communists to task for their anti-democracy interference in the citys affairs.

On Taiwan
The Liberty Times (Taiwan) details the abuses Taiwanese businessmen face in Communist China: improper execution of laws, official and civilian corruption, property theft, kidnapping and illegal detention (via Epoch Times, HK).

John Kusumi, Executive Director of the must-see
China Support Network and member since 2003, sees no rational alternative to independence for Taiwan (also available via Epoch Times).  Dr. Paul Risenhoover also defends Taiwans democracy in an address posted by CSN.

Casting their votes by foot in dictatorships
Liu Shui, Epoch Times, gives some badly needed exposure to the connection between the waves of Chinese escaping the PRC and the Communist repression that drives many to go.
