The Weeks Links: Feature and Opinion Pieces on Communist China
March 26, 2004

Dragon in the Dark: How and Why Communist China Helps Our Enemies in the War on Terror is now available: here, at Amazon, or call 1-888-280-7715.

Link of the Week
Representative Frank Wolf (R-Virginia) blasts Communist China from every angle in his Congressional newsletter reprinted by the Epoch Times.

On the Taiwanese Election
John Tkacik, of the Heritage Foundation, rages at pan-blue running mates Lien Chan and James Soong in the Weekly Standard: I have seen two men whom I have admired for the past 20 years turn into hate-mongers.  Ezra Levant, Calgary Sun, finds inspiration from the refusal of the Taiwanese people to be intimidated by Communist threats and naval exercises.

Angus Foster, BBC, examines
the hurdles facing the Chen in his second term.  National Review Online carries two pieces on Chens re-election: Russ Munro basically advances the pan-blue line, while John Derbyshire (Member since 2002) provides a more balanced analysis.  The editors of the Washington Post also weigh in.

Wu Hongda,
Guancha Magazine, offers a toast to Taiwans democracy.  Yu Jie, Epoch Times, sees Taiwans political history warts and all as an excellent model for bringing freedom to the mainland.  Gary Schmitt, executive director of the Project for the New American Century, calls on the U.S. to ratify Chens narrow victory.

Anthony Spaeth,
Time Asia, looks at the recent past and Chens challenges for the future.  Matthew Forney, also of Time Asia, gauges the Communist militarys reaction, and its plans for a future invasion or blockade.

On the Falun Gong War
A letter written by female practitioners of Falun Gong details the inhumane torture we have been suffering over the past four and one-half years, and called on the rest of the world to stop the vicious persecution and protect the dignity and basic human rights of women.  The letter was published by the China Support Network.

On the Communist Chinese Economy
Conventional wisdom says the economic future is bright for Communist China, and dark for Russia.  The editors of the Epoch Times hold a different view.

On Communist China and the United States
Tim Luard, BBC, examines the transatlantic argument over the French proposal to lift the European Unions arms embargo against Communist China.  John Tkacik, this time in National Review Online, blasts the idea.  Both agree that the plan, at least in part, stems from the fact that France and China want to build a multipolar alliance to counter American hegemony."

Stephen Blank, in the
Asia Times, examines the fallout from Israels attempt to resume military ties of some kind to Communist China, and the PRCs never-ending quest for military arms from around the world.

The editors of the Washington Post give the AFL-CIO one-and-a-half cheers for its petition to the Bush Administration for trade sanctions against Communist China for its labor rights abuses and the impact of those on American jobs.  John Sweeney, ALF-CIO President, chides the Post editors for their half-hearted support.

The editors of the
Washington Times, meanwhile, call on the World Trade Organization to back the U.S. against the unfair advantage Communist China gives its domestic semiconductor computer chip makers.

On the State of Workers in the Workers State
Peter S. Goodman, Washington Post, examines the thoroughly corrupt and exceedingly dangerous mining industry in Communist China, where local and provincial cadres allow private mines to operate with total disregard to the lives of the miners themselves.

Riordan Galluccio,
Epoch Times, details the horrors of Communist labor camps, and the products on American shelves they are forced to produce.

On Communist China and Private Property
Zeng Renquan, Epoch Times, notes that the Communist Chinese amendment protecting private property simply rewards those who became rich overnight by stealing state property, evading taxes, brutally exploiting workers, or making counterfeit and low-quality products.
