The Weeks Links: Feature and Opinion Pieces on Communist China
July 25, 2003

Link of the Week
Randall Parker, Parapundit founder and Member since 2003, gives a pointed and detailed account of the horrific North Korean regime, how Communist China props it up, and why any attempt to strike a deal with North Korea is pointless.

More On North Korea
The editors of the Washington Times, in their analysis of the North Korean situation, have hope that Communist China will help the U.S. resolve the issue.

Sign up for the North Korea Report before the next edition is sent on Monday.

On Hong Kong
Ellen Bork, deputy director at the Project for the New American Century, demands that the Bush Administration push Communist China on Hong Kong to keep the citys precarious freedoms and bring full-fledged democracy to it, in the Weekly Standard.

On PRC Rival India
Alan Cooperman, Washington Post, finds that the spirit of cooperation between India and Israel has spread to its expatriate lobbying groups here.  This could mean although Cooperman doesnt discuss it the powerful Israel lobby joining to the anti-Communist cause.

On Burma
Morton Abramowitz, in the Washington Times, calls on the U.S. to hold China's feet to the fire on the military junta in Burma.  Communist China is one of Burmas very few allies.

On Tony Blairs Trip to Communist China
Willy Wo-Lap Lam, CNN, examines the goals of Tony Blairs trip to Communist China.

On the Falun Gong War
Philip Kennicott, Washington Post, covers this weeks rally for Falun Gong (see last Update), and examines the Communist propaganda campaign against the movement, as well as the continued resistance of the practitioners (Link courtesy Susan Prager, Member since 2003).

On Escapees and snakeheads
Liz Carney, BBC, examines the plight of escapees from Communist China forced into slavery to payoff massive fees to criminal groups that helped them escape.  If the police discover them, they go back to the PRC, assuming the snakeheads let them live that long.

On Communist China and SARS
David Brown, Washington Post, gives some disturbing praise to China's authoritarian political structure in the battle against SARS very much belittling the effect of the Communist cover-up that allowed the disease to spread around the world.

On Communist China and Trade
William R. Hawkins, Senior Fellow for National Security Studies at the U.S. Business and Industry Council, details the damage economic engagement with Communist China has done to the U.S., both economically and geopolitically, in Trade Alert.

On the Xiamen Smuggling Scandal
DeNeen L. Brown, Washington Post, interviews Lai Changxing, the reputed central figure in the multi-billion dollar smuggling scandal in Xiamen that has ensnared hundreds of Communist officials, and likely involved high-ranking cadres who have so far managed to avoid punishment.  Lai, currently in Canada fighting extradition, is sure hell be executed in the PRC.
