McGuire: Tuesday midnight EST or Wednesday 2PM EST (tape delay), on WXEI 95.3 FM in Crestview, FL, or here. Dragon in the Dark: How and Why Communist China Helps Our Enemies in the War on Terror is now available: here, at Amazon, or call 1-888-280-7715. Link of the Week Andrew Stuttaford, National Review Online (and Member since 2002) reviews Red Color News Soldier, a harrowing photographic tale of the murderous Cultural Revolution. The Gendercide of the One Child Policy Joseph Farah, the head of World Net Daily, details the twin demographic train wrecks in Communist China thanks to the hideous one child policy: the lack of working-age Chinese relative to retirees, and the appalling gendercide of young girls. More France-bashing James Mann, formerly of the Los Angeles Times, lambastes Jacques Chirac and other Europeans in the Washington Post for becoming far more tolerant of the same Chinese political repression that it condemned in the early 1990s, a scathing reference Chiracs calls for the European Union to lift its arms embargo on the PRC. On Communist Chinese Economy James Glassman, Washington Post, takes a largely Pollyannish view of the Communist Chinese economy, without one word about the danger of Americas national security from pouring money into the PRC. Tim Weber, BBC, is somewhat more circumspect, although it takes a while to get to the skepticism. He is also silent on security issues. On Communist China and the United States Paul Craig Roberts is not nearly as nave as Glassman or Weber, but his Newsmax column doesnt mention national security either. On Nuclear Proliferation Helle Dale, Washington Times, takes note of Communist Chinas deeply troubling history of supporting Pakistans efforts to become a nuclear power. On Taiwan David Jerke, Epoch Times (and member since 2003) pens another poem in support of the island democracy. Paul Lin, also in the Epoch Times, uses a more traditional column to call for the U.S. to do more in disseminating the universal value of democracy by defending Taiwan. Chen Ching-chih, of the Los Angeles-based Institute for Taiwanese Studies, also calls for the international community to support the island democracy, in the Epoch Times. Munshi Ahmed, Time Asia profiles the Tsais, one of the richest, and most visible, families in Taiwan. On Hong Kong Ellen Bork and Gary Schmitt, of the Project for the New American Century, lament the Communist threats against Hong Kongs pro-democracy forces and calls for making democracy for Hong Kong a priority in U.S.-China relations. John Stanmeyer, Time Asia profiles the Lis, but his take on Hong Kongs most influential family ignores patriarch Ka-Shings ties to Communist China. On the Plight of Escapees from Communist China Alastair Leithead, BBC, examines the fate of escapees from Communist China trapped in Britain thanks to criminal groups who charge over $30,000 for transport, money the escapees are forced to earned through indentured servitude.
