| THE NORTH KOREA REPORT: JULY 15, 2002 NEWS THREE MORE NORTH KOREAN REFUGEES FLOWN TO FREEDOM IN SEOUL Three more North Korean refugees who made it into the South Korean Embassy in Beijing are free in Seoul, South Korea today. The defectors included a member of the North Korean armed forces and a women�s soccer player. Communist China sends back any refugee from its Stalinist ally that it finds. As a result, thousands who escaped starvation are forced to hide from the Communists. Report: BBC NORTH KOREAN NUMBER TWO OFFICIAL IN LIBYA Kim Yong-Nam, number two in the Stalinist hierarchy in North Korea, is in Libya for a four-day trip to �expand ties between the two countries� (BBC). After Libya, Kim is headed for Syria. The Stalinist regime has a history of aiding Libya, Syria, and other terrorist states, which is why President Bush placed in the axis of evil. U.S. PAYS NORTH $3 MILLION FOR MIA SEARCH Yet another check from the U.S. taxpayers has been sent to North Korea. According to the Washington Times (third story), the Stalinist regime is getting $3 million for �a new round of searches� on the thousands of American missing in action from the Korean War. One can understand the desire for closure for the families of veterans from the �forgotten war.� Still, this is North Korea getting $3 million. NORTH DEMANDS TO KNOW WHEN SHIP WILL BE SALVAGED; SOUTH REJECTS DEMAND North Korea told the South it wanted to be informed �in advance� of any effort to salvage a South Korean vessel sunk in the naval battle two weeks ago (see July 1 NK Report). South Korea immediately rejected the Stalinist regime�s demand, which did little to soothe rising anger in the South over the incident. Report: BBC NORTH MAKES ANOTHER CLAIM OF SOUTH KOREAN BORDER CROSSING Meanwhile, North Korea again asserted that the navy of the democratic South crossed into its naval waters last week, a charge rejected for a second time by South Korea. Report: BBC SOUTH KOREAN DEFENSE MINISTER BOUNCED IN CABINET RESHUFFLE Less than two weeks after the aforementioned gun battle with the North, South Korean Defense Minister Kim Dong-shin lost his job in a cabinet reshuffle. Replacing Kim is Lee Jun, a retired army general and member of President Kim Dae-Jung�s Millennium Democratic Party. Reports: CNN, Washington Times COMMENTARY/ANALYSIS WAS IT TO STOP U.S. TALKS, OR ALL ABOUT CRABS? Donald McIntyre of Time Asia speculates that rights to fish, in particular crabs, may be at the heart of the naval gun battle (see July 1 NK Report). Of course, McIntyre also notes that the Stalinist regime may have started the battle �for an excuse to keep a U.S. delegation from coming to Pyongyang for high- level talks�there are plenty of issues the North is loathe to discuss, like its weapons of mass destruction.� Stop the Nuclear Power Deal: The United States is building two nuclear power plants in North Korea while the Stalinist regime refuses to let us inspect their nuclear weapons program to verify they have halted it as required in the deal.
