On North Korea
Lee Young Kuk, ex-bodyguard to Stalinist North Korea�s �Dear Leader� Kim Jong-Il, talks to Donald MacIntyre of
Time Asia about his travels from bodyguard to defector.  He bears witness to the Communist cruelty and propaganda, and dismisses any talk of reform within the regime and South Korea�s attempts at d�tente: �North Korea's not going to change.  If it did, Kim Jong Il thinks the country would collapse.�

Communist China�s oldest ally inspired a good deal of ink.  Victor D. Cha, director of the American Alliances in Asia Project at Georgetown University, calls on the Administration to
engage North Korea today to punish them tomorrow, in the Los Angeles Times.  Morton Abramowitz and James Laney, of the Council on Foreign Relations, generally whine about Bush�s tough talk in the Washington Post.
