THE NORTH KOREA REPORT: APRIL 7, 2003

Our statement on why North Korea must be liberated can be found
here.

TOP STORY: NORTH KOREA RIPS UN SECURITY COUNCIL DELIBERATIONS
REGIME NOW WANTS MORE THAN NON-AGRESSION PACT
North Korea was its typical self upon hearing news of plans by the United Nations Security Council to take up the issue the Stalinist regimes nuclear antics.  The regime blasted the decision for consultations (BBC) calling them a prelude to war (CNN).  It also insisted on maintaining a tremendous military deterrent force (Washington Post).

The North even said a non-aggression pact  would not help avert a war.  The Stalinists have demanded a non-aggression for months as the price for returning to their earlier promises to end their nuclear ambitions.  They are likely looking for more now.

The Security Council has scheduled the consultations for Wednesday.  The North had promised to freeze its nuclear weapons program in a 1994 deal that won it two nuclear power plants (presently still under construction).  They admitted to breaking the deal last fall (see
10/21/02 North Korea Report).

The UN Ambassador from Communist China the Norths ally for over fifty years wasnt sure what will be accomplished by the UNSC.  The PRC has been blocking Security Council action on the North for weeks (see
3/17 North Korea Report).  Also reporting: Cybercast News, Newsmax

Stop the North Korean Nuclear Power Plants
: North Korea announced that it would restart the pre-1994 plutonium power plants. Despite this, talk of negotiations continues, and the two nuclear power plants that were part of the 1994 deal have still not been canceled.  Use this China e-Lobby fact sheet and tell the President to stand firm against the Stalinist regime, and not to build the power plants.

HUMAN RIGHTS AND INTERNAL NEWS
NORTH KOREAS HUMAN RIGHTS RECORD THE WORST

The BBC asked Lorne Cramer, the top State Department official for human rights, to name the nation with the worst rights record in the world.  This was his response: I would think that honour (UK sp) probably goes to North Korea.  The Stalinists responded by accusing America of having the poorest human rights record.

The report cited numerous abuses, including torture, execution for dissidents and religious followers, and the imprisonment of over 200,000 political prisoners.  Forced abortions and/or infanticides to prevent any child of a prisoner from surviving birth, especially women capture by Communist China and returned to the North, are also routine.   Reports:
Newsmax, Cybercast News

ALL TRIPLETS FORCED INTO ORPHANAGES

Look at this Hearld Sun (Aus.) picture and try not to cry.  Under orders from Stalinist-in-chief Kim Jong-il all triplets are being forcibly removed from parents after their birth and dumped in bleak orphanages.  Kim is convinced a triplet could one day topple his regime, and as such, want all triplets raised by his Stalinist regime and under its control.  Shudder.

OH, THERE HE IS.  KIM JONG-IL REAPPEARS
Stalinist-in-chief Kim Jong-il came out from hiding (see last North Korea Report) to visit a military medical school.  Some of his top military commanders, who had also disappeared from view, were with him during his coming-back-out party.  Report: BBC

BRITISH OPERA SINGER TO PERFORM IN NORTH KOREA
British opera singer Suzannah Clarke will perform in North Koreas Friendship Festival.  She will be the first British entertainer to perform in the Stalinist regime.  Sadly, that is something of which she seems to be proud.  Report: BBC

NUCLEAR AND OTHER WEAPONS NEWS
NORTH KOREA BUYING RUSSIAN MISSILES FROM SYRIA

Stalinist North Korea is buying Russian-made missiles and rocket systems from Syria.  The weapons stash will upgrade the guidance system and other functions of its long-range missiles Agence France Presse (via Washington Times).  While Russia does not know of Syrias plans with the hardware, according to AFPs source - Sankei Shimbun the former U.S.S.R. is one of the Norths few allies.

U.S. SAYS PAKISTANI FIRM HELPED NKS NUKE PROGRAM, PAKISTAN DEMANDS PROOF
Khan Research Laboratories (KRL), the Pakistani firm hit with U.S. sanctions last week, not only bought missiles from North Korea (see last North Korea Report), but also helped the Stalinists with their nuclear weapons program, according to the U.S.  Pakistan denied KRL had helped the Norths nuclear ambitions, and demanded proof.  Reports: BBC, CNN

NORTH KOREA LAUNCHES ANOTHER MISSILE
North Korea launched its third surface-to-ship missile test early last week. Japanese sources noted the launch first, and the U.S. sources reconfirmed (CNN) the Japanese account.  It is likely the Stalinists third test of its KN-01 anti-ship missile, a modified version of a Communist Chinese missile (see 3/3 and 3/10 North Korea Reports).  Also reporting: Washington Post, MSNBC

UN ENVOY SAYS U.S.-NORTH KOREA DEAL IS FEASIBLE
Meanwhile, Maurice Strong, the UN envoy to the Stalinist regime, said a deal between the U.S. and North Korea was feasible (BBC) because on the fundamental issues the two sides are saying more or less what the other side is demanding . . . but they haven't been able to say it to each other directly.  The fact that North Korea has yet to honor any of its agreements did not seem to get Strongs attention.

AXIS OF EVIL NEWS
NORTH KOREA BLASTS SOUTH KOREA FOR DEPLOYMENT OF TROOPS TO IRAQ

Now North Korea is getting upset if the South takes troops out of Korea.  The democratic Souths decision to send 700 non-combat troops to join the U.S.-led war against Baathist Iraq is, in the Norths view, a criminal act (CNN), and a sign that the South was supporting U.S. ambitions to invade North Korea, all statements by South Koreas dovish President Roh Moo-hyun notwithstanding.

NEWS ON COMMUNIST CHINAS ROLE
PRC STILL PUSHING FOR U.S.-NORTH KOREA TALKS, BUT NOTHING ELSE FROM NK

Communist China is growing increasingly worried about North Koreas nuclear antics, but is only pushing Pyongyang and the U.S. to start talks exactly what the Stalinists want. The Communists are particularly worried the U.S. will, in the words of PRC academic Zhang Liangui, destroy North Korea and destroy the Kim Jong Il regime (Washington Post) if it moves forward with its nuclear ambitions.

It should surprise no one that Communist China, a Stalinist ally over 50 years, considers the liberation of the people of northern Korea a greater threat than Kim Jong-il acquiring or producing nuclear weapons.

OTHER AMERICAN-RELATED NEWS

NK SAYS NUCLEAR WAR IS INEVITABLE UNLESS U.S. GIVES THEM WHAT THEY WANT
Stalinist North Korea said nuclear war with the U.S. was inevitable unless Washington changes its ways (Washington Times, second paragraph).

STEALTH FIGHTERS SENT TO JOINT MILITARY EXERCISES WILL STAY IN SOUTH KOREA
The half-dozen F-117A stealth fighters sent to South Korea for joint U.S.-South Korean military exercises will stay there after the exercises end, in order to further enhance interoperability while also enhancing deterrence (BBC).  Also reporting: Washington Post

NORTH KOREA KEEPING THEIR DISTANCE FROM U.S. PLANES
North Korea is apparently not eager to repeat the RC-135 near shooting episode (see 3/10 North Korea Report).  Current American surveillance flights near North Korea all of them in international waters have seen some MiG activity over water (Washington Post), but none of it directed at the U.S. planes.

OTHER SOUTH KOREA NEWS
NORTH KOREA CANCELS TALKS WITH SOUTH
The Stalinist regime postponed ministerial talks with South Korea and cancelled two sets of working-level talks (BBC) with the South.  No public reason was given, but speculation centers around the Souths decision to send non-combat troops to Iraq (see Axis of Evil News).
