THE NORTHERN KOREA REPORT: JANUARY 3, 2005 Dragon in the Dark: How and Why Communist China Helps Our Enemies in the War on Terror is now available here (or call1-888-280-7715). Our statement on why northern Korea must be liberated can be found here. TOP STORY: SCNK RIPS UNITED STATES IN NEW YEAR MESSAGE In its New Year message to its prisoners ahem, the people within its regime Stalinist-controlled northern Korea demanded that the United States make a switchover in its hostile policy (Financial Times, UK), i.e., give the regime money and survival guarantees right now. SCNK accused the U.S. of increasing the danger of a nuclear war. The regime did not mention its own nuclear weapons program, which violated several promises made to the U.S. (see 10/21/02 NKR). This non-mention is already being seized by engagement supporters and other fools as an event to be interpreted positively. Stop the SCNK Nuclear Power Plants: Are the plants dead or arent they? You can make sure they dont come back! Use this China e-Lobby fact sheet and tell the President to kill the power plants from the 1994 agreement that SCNK broke. OTHER REPUBLIC OF KOREA (SOUTH KOREA) NEWS PARLIAMENT EXTENDS IRAQ DEPLOYMENT UNTIL END OF 2005 The ROK National Assembly (Parliament) voted 161-63 to keep its 3,600 troops in Iraq for one more year, until December 31, 2005. The vote maintains the largest military presence in Iraq outside the United States and Great Britain. Report: Washington Times, third item COMMENTARY/ANALYSIS Selig S. Harrison, Director of the Asia Program at the Center for International Policy, claims in Foreign Affairs that SCNKs nuclear weapons program is, well, not a nuclear weapons program. Michael Levi, coauthor of The Future of Arms Control, systematically destroys Harrisons arguments in The New Republic (online). Check out the Communist China and the Terrorist War page.
