The Weeks Links: Feature and Opinion Pieces on Communist China
January 2, 2004

Dragon in the Dark: How and Why Communist China Helps Our Enemies in the War on Terror is now available!  My book detailing Communist Chinas history of aiding terrorist states, Saddam Hussein, the Taliban, and al Qaeda can be ordered here, at Barnes and Noble, or at Amazon. D.J. McGuire

Link of the Week
Yet another tale of a private businessman in Communist China finds Peter Goodman of the
Washington Post.  In this case, its Sun Dawu, who found himself in jail after he formed his own bank to raise capital without bribing cadres and, more dangerously, broke an unspoken rule: Private businesses are free to make money as long as they leave politics to the party.

More On Human Rights in Communist China
Jennifer Chou, Radio Free Asias Director of Mandarin Service, laments
the imprisonment of over 40 cyber-dissidents, in the Washington Times.  Jeremy Reynalds, also in the Washington Times, talks to David Aikman, author of Jesus in Beijing (see last Weeks Links).

Communist Chinas 2003
Time Asia lists Dr. Jiang Yanyong, the man who exposed the Communist cover-up of SARS, as one of the people who mattered over the past year.  Patrick Goodenough, Cybercast News, looks back at the past year in Asia, and Communists Chinas role therein.

On the State of Workers in the Workers State
Cao An Jushi, in the
Epoch Times (HK), laments the fate of Communist Chinas young workers from the 1950s, who now, in their old age, are seeing the PRC break every promise it made.

On Hong Kong and Taiwan
Paul Lin, in the
Epoch Times, takes note of Communist Chinas undermining of democracy in Hong Kong, and how it further highlighted the importance and urgency of referendums and a new constitution in Taiwan.  Philip Pan, Washington Post, reports on the rise of Taiwans national identity, and how the Taiwanese people are growing more distant from the PRC.

On Communist China and the United States
Lev Navrozov, Newsmax, has another column on
the PRC-U.S. nanotechnology race.

On Japan and Communist China
The editors of the
Washington Times hail Japans continuing rise into its natural place as a regional balance to Chinese hegemonic ambitions.

On Mao Zedong in Communist China
Mao Zedone is riding
a supposed wave of nostalgia, according to Tal Dvir in the London Telegraph via the Washington Times.  How much of the nostalgia is forced is not explored.
