Entrance of Lama Temple
BEIJING, Day 3::Lama Temple (YongHerGong) is still being occupied by the monks and hence, is better preserved. It is really pleasant to observe the intricacy of the patterns and carving on the buildings. Lama Temple houses the worlds largest Buddha figurine carved from sandalwood (tanxiang). Our last stop in Beijing is the Temple of Heaven Park, where emperors came here to pray for good weather and crops. What can I say?! The area has a peaceful, deserted, out-of-the-world feel although it was packed with tourists and dotted with blue-roof-red-walls circular constructions and marble circular altars. We first reached Altar of Heaven where it was cleverly constructed to serve as an amplifier when standing on a small round platform in the centre. Imperial Vault of Universe is inside the Echo Wall. The main building is Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests. The Hall itself was constructed without a single nail. On the way to airport, we found out that our local guide had forgotten our domestic air tickets! Alas, she got them in time.
