Title: Gladian Steele, Lord Captain of the Eastern Demesnes (goes by Mister)
Fellow regents have difficulty understanding Gladian. His past is well
enough known to anyone willing to ask a few questions in the region.
Though his appointment to the position of governor over the easternmost
provinces of Dhoesone is recent, he has been a force within them for a
number of years. Gladian's earliest days, however, are a mystery.
Though he uses the cognomen "Steel" it is obviously not his real name.
His clearly noble education and the quality of his blood seem to indicate
a man of higher birth, but he claims no title but "Mr." outside the order
of a military hierarchy.
Gladian's rise through the ranks in the church was meteoric. His innate
skills allowed him to advance steadily, taking on ever greater
responsibility. He quickly gained a reputation among all classes and is now
instantly recognized via his signature weapon. Though he excelled at
combat, Gladian was an expert leader, and won his battles by inspiring his men
rather than always through tactics. Much of Gladian's skill at diplomacy
was developed in contacts with the elven courts, brief and unpleasant as
those may have been. Recently among the more prominent citizens of the
barony it has been rumoured that Gladian is himself of elven descent,
evidence being that he never seems to sleep, has only rarely been seen to eat,
and has an uncanny ability to detect the truth.
Gladian is a stoic man in every sense. A strict disciplinarian, he is a man
of infinite patience but little tolerance, beloved by the men he has fought
with for he repays loyalty with loyalty. Gladian leads an ascetic life,
giving much to those in need. His calm exterior is broken only by the plight
of children, which tends to lead him to frosty anger rather than tears.
Before the current assignment, Gladian was in charge of fortifications near
the border. His incredible success in defending against goblin incursions
despite the quality of fortifications led to the nickname of his elite guard
"Steel's Wall"
Maerten Goblinsbane
Status: Fighter
Maerten Goblinsbane was promoted to Count Romiene and Warden of the North
only 1 year ago. Before that, he served The Watch in The Giantdowns with
great distinction for about 10 years. His origins before that are unclear,
and Maerten never speaks of it.
If rumors are held to be true, Maerten quickly rose in the ranks of The
Watch, soon becoming one of the chief lieutenants of that organization. It
is known that he was in charge of the patrols in one province before The
Watch brought all its people to Dhoesone to escape the volcanic eruptions
in their homelands. Upon arrival in Dhoesone, Maerten continued his patrols
along The Giantdowns, destroying many goblin warbands. Today is widely
known for his incredible military skills.
When not fighting, Maertens eyes are sparkling green, and a jovial smile
covers his face. In combat, though, this changes. His eyes grow cold, and
his face locks in an angry grimace. He fights deadly silent, never crying
out until the battle is done. Against goblins and their ilk he gives no
mercy, thus his moniker. With others, though, he fights honorably,
accepting surrender readily. Maerten follows a strict knightly code:
protect the weak, fight with honor, obey your superiors.
When The Watch gathered to return to The Giantdowns, Baroness Dhoesone came
to the north to beg the leaders to stay. Maerten was the last to leave and
was thus the only one she could find. She personally asked Maerten to stay,
offering him his current titles. The Baroness must have been very
persuasive, for Maerten dropped to his knee and swore allegiance on the
spot, accepting her granted titles and duties.
Maertens first actions after his ennoblement were to visit all the various
Rjurik clans and tribes that had migrated into Northern Dhoesone to
establish the rule of law. Of course, few Rjurik chiefs and jarls accepted
Maertens claim of leadership, and challenges ensued. To date, Maerten has
not been defeated, and has brought all the people of the north to follow his
lead. Maerten fights and drinks like a demon, winning the respect of Rjurik
and Anuireans alike with his ways.
Maertens old patrols have stayed with him out of loyalty. That, and he
treats them very well, giving them shares of all battle loot. The formerly
rag-tag group of knights, mounted warriors and scouts have now come together
as a powerful cavalry unit, affectionately known as Ravens Blades after
Maertens heraldic device: a raven holding a silver sword on a green
background. Many goblin warbands have turned and fled at the sight of this
unit, but to no avail: Maerten and his troops simply ride down the goblins
and kill them to the last.
Vimoerean
Status: Wizard
Description: Vimoerean is a brooding man who seems to constantly be in
conflict. He speaks with a commanding manner and generally remains calm and
collected. When he loses his anger though, mountains move and few people
survive his fury. Vimoerean has yet to be seen weilding anything but
offensive magic while in Dhoesone, but already people are learning to
respect the potential of the young man as his magics have devistated groups
of goblins where others failed. When Vimoerean grows angry, his bloodmark
that seems to start at his neck and be present also on his left hand flares
a brilliant red, and destructive magic soon ensues to consume those who
would face his ire. Not many have survived these encounters, but those who
do assure that they never want to face him again.
Hailing from Oseorde, Vimoerean aspires to the highest ideals of Knighthood
(as any good follower of the Impregnable Heart), being a devout follower of
Haelyn. Thus, he believes in the pillars of the faith of Haelyn and unlike
many arcane spell users chooses to live by those pillars: chivalry, honour,
courage and justice are an everyday part of his life.
He has black hair and silvery-steel eyes, standing at about 6'1" and weights
nearly 175 lbs of muscle and sinew. He is quick on his feet and competently wields weapons.
Njadaff Nardell
What do we know about Njadaff Nardell?...
Njadaff Nardell is the second son of the House of Nardell. The Hourse
of Nardell is an ancient house located in the North of Dhoesone and is
said to share blood with the baroness. This link to the ruling house
of Dhoesone is one the family treasure a lot and they remind people
about constantly. It IS special that one of the seven cousins of the
late barons' sister in lore was married to the seventh sister of the
House of Njadell. Despite this obvious direct link, the House of
Njadell has never had the influence they think they deserve. And
they've never had the influence either, to get the influence they
want.
Despite this, they have succeeded in keeping spirit high. The House is
located in the northern part of Dhoesone, with center in Bhanaele.
Though never too loved or strong in power, the house seems to have an
uncanny ability to survive and stay alive despite various raids from
the north. To this day, people have been unable to determine, exactly
why they seem to have this ability and what makes it. The biggest
disaster to the family has been the volcano eruption recently. What
generations of northern invaders haven't seems to be able to do, this
natural disaster seems to have done in very short time. The family has
been scattered and have lost many of its possessions as well as family
member who are still to be found. As a result Njadaff has been
summoned to the north to work for the family. As a gesture to the
House of Nardell, the baroness has appointed him to do just that,
defend the North!
Njadaff Nardell is one of the inspiring young people of his house,
intelligent and gifted with an ability to stay alive both values
highly appreciated in the family. At a young age he was sent to the
Collage of Sorcery where he was taught in the art of the magic by the
highly esteemed wizard from the colonies to the east, Saeed al-Sahhaf.
Everything went well for the young apprentice. One day though, he just
stopped suddenly without a reason. An explanation has been impossible
to obtain neither from the House of Nardell nor from Saeed al-Sahhaf,
who, by the way, moved back to the east not long time after this.
Instead of returning to the House of Njadell, Njadaff decided to work
independently for the ones in Dhoesone, who had the real power, the
guilds. With no direct attachment to the guilds he had to start at the
low levels, which was as a scout for caravans, mostly in the north.
With all danger of being just another scout Njadaff did his job. He
seemed very good at it though, and was able to lead the caravans
unharmed through the most hostile terrains. So, when a caravan with a
local leader of the guilds in the north perished, part from Njadaff
that is, he took charge of the northern operations without too much
questioning. As the volcano erupted Njadaff was able to take fully
control of the guilds, backed up with the ties he had made to the
lands while exploring it.
With his family's backing Njadaff Nardell now processes more power
than any of his ancestors. But despite his obvious lust for power and
money, no evidence has been found that he has been behaving immoral,
which could be the reason for his appointment.
Amelie
Amelie comes from a family of travelers. Traders and artisans they
never settled down wandering the roads from Cariele to Ariya. It was
therefore unsurprising that Amelie worshipped Saramie above all the
gods of Anuire. It is known that she played a major role in the
establishment of the Church of Sera's Hope, and that she began
studying under Prelate Jarek as an acolyte shortly before he set
himself in opposition to Larra Niellems. She is known to favour
diplomacy over conflict, planning over action and unconventional plans
of all sorts. Often impossibly beautiful she is a living symbol of her
religion, though she also has a more human face, which she wears most
of the time. Strangely for the usually urbane Saramites it is said
that Amelie can track a breeze through a forest, walk a straight line
in a blizzard whiteout and find a healing herb in a midden. But the
truth is that no-one really knows her and this seems to be the way she
likes it.
