Background:
Mason Kitch was raised by his grandparents, Tomalk and Nimya McLare, in the peaceful village of C'reseth, located on the western shore of Itra, on the world of Cyre. His father had been captured from a resistance camp/ final training ground for the P'nai six months before his birth, but had entrusted the care of his wife and unborn son to Tomalk, his best friend. Mason's mother, Aylith, was murdered by the Svori when he was only three years old. She was shot by a Svorin archer while trying to escape them. The arrowhead had been covered in a thick layer of Curare, a highly fatal poison. Because his mother was P'nai, her regenerative ability was able to fight the poison, though it required much of her secondary gift; healing. Moments after the arrow struck her, she was proded for information by Tochravanthis' second in command--Mortain--but she wouldn't divulge her son's and the McLare's whereabouts. In her weakened state, she was slain through the heart. Mason watched his mother's death, but was quickly taken away by his grandparents, burrying the memories deep and keeping them repressed. They remained hidden beyond his grasp, as was he, under a protection spell.
As Mason grew, the secret of his heritage was purposely kept from him in fear that if anyone knew, even him, the repercussions could be disastrous. Though his grandparents knew taking this action would deprive him of the privileges of being P'nai, they'd ultimately decided that the risk was too great to take, and withheld the truth. As a result, Mason had never known anything about that aspect of himself, or his real parents, not even their names. All he can remember is a tune that use to be sung to him. Just like the other people in C'reseth and most of Itra, Mason learned the tales of the magic users through stories, true or not. He wished the myths of magic, dragons and Elves were true.
His grandmother, Nimya, was a herbologist. She taught him some of the methods of herbology in a very discrete manner so he would still use magic, but be unaware of it. All of her notes were kept in a secret code so no one would steal her recipe for herbal concoctions. To help her, she taught Mason how to read and write in this code, telling him it was her own special writting, and very much a secret that no one else could read. This made Mason feel important, though he was unware that the code was the written P'nai language.
He lived with his grandparents in a simple round two story house of birch and stone built many years ago by a man named Shawn Dauler, and it had become known as White Willow Glen because of the old white willow tree in his front yard. His home is one mile out of town, and a half mile from the road. So consequently, no one knew it was there unless they were friends of the family, or knew the legend of White Willow Glen. It was a great place to hide in plain sight.
Mason was never really popular with the rest of the kids, so he tended to keep to himself, unless he was around his friends, Valen Trekel, Pru Lorama, Nenyara Kelitari, and Kody Penderson, where he would then be himself--outgoing, eager for adventure, and impulsive, yet he was never a very open person. It just wasn't his personality.
Nimya sold her herbs and remedies in a small stand outside the old inn, "The Voyager's End" in the center circle of town, and was on a good basis with the owner, a kind old man named Tymo i'Felters. Mason helped his grandmother, doing most of the gathering and carrying the herbs in a worn leather pack Nimya had given him when he was little, and later on, tending to the stand on the days Nimya could not. His grandfather taught him respect, most times the hard way, how to wield a sword, and all that manly stuff, and had even aprenticed with his grandfather as a blacksmith, although he didn't feel the love for the forge that his grandfather did. Even though he has a group of friends, he's always felt like the outcast and could never understand why.
Mason Kitch is the last remaining member of the P'nai race.
Habbits:-When he's nervous, he tends to play with the fabric on his left shoulder, and his hair.
-Public speaking is not one of his best traits, and so he has a habit of sticking his hands in his pockets. He'll do that any time though.
-He plays with a coin, passing it across his knuckles.
Body mark(s): He has a small scar on his nose just near his left eye caused by an accident in a cave where he was lost for a full day. He was ten years old. He also has a small birthmark on the instep of his right foot.
Love interest: He'd been attracted to a young woman with long chestnut colored hair and brown eyes, named Nenyara Kelitari. He had known her since they were little, and he grew to care for her greatly. Nenyara belonged to a prestigious house in C'reseth and was one of two kids to the family, her, and her younger brother, Ritobhin. Nenyara hung around the group because she was friends with Pru, who was more of the Tom Boy type and preferred to be one of the guys. When Mason attempted to kiss Nenyara, she told him she didn't like him in that way. Mason took this as pity, which angered him because he didn't want anyone's pity. He only wanted her to love him. His feelings had been crushed, yet he still loved her, and told himself he always would. They remained friends, though with new knowledge.
(As for the Quests of Itara rp world, he is taken with Isis Marnin, the half Fairy. The two share a commonality in their lives, although both are tentative about being open about their feelings toward each other. Isis is afraid of loosing Mason, and Mason is afraid yet another person he loves will die because of him, or lack of presence when it counts most.)(Now though, Tochravanthis has killed Isis, and Mason has vowed revenge for her death.) (*update* He gained that revenge with Tochravanthis' death and the return of Isis, who later became his wife in a traditional P'nai ceremony.)
Magic:
-Because he is P'nai, he possess an incredible regenerative ability. His ageing process after puberty is slowed because of this.
-He can create a shield around himself, but has only done once by instinct in the cave as a child. That is what broke his fall.
Later Magic:
-He can create an orb of white elemental magic in his hand: the light runs from the tips of his fingers to converge in the center of his palm.
-He's empathic.
-His words can be heard and understood by animals if he concentrates.
-He can transfer his own energy to another to heal them. This isn't something he's done much, and he's not naturaly a healer.
-When involved in fighting, something in him takes over and he's able to see the opponents move before he makes it, giving him enough time to counter and/or attack. In real time, he looks to be reading the other's mind, fighting with incredible speed, and not fully aware of his movements.
-Telepathy is something he's learning (It freaked him out at first. Actually, 99% of this did).
-He can control a ribbon of white magic and light.
RP magic:
There's a list, but I'll just name his most frequently used spells.
-Push: He has the ability to send out a concussion wave in the form of a slightly lit air ripple, increasing or decreasing the intensity of the wave. At first, he couldn't control it, and crushed a giant rat into a rock wall, leaving a large hole and no rat. This doesn't require a spell.
-Jump: Dav sor. Like a Force jump, he can reach a hight of 30 feet max., and a distance of 40, max.
-Lightning: Generates electricty from his own bio-electricity and can distribute it either at a touch, or physical bolts that form from the air. He can infused his sword to make it stronger and more powerful. It is his inherant, natural power that is easiest to use. This doesn't require a spell.
-Lightning Attack: Saat. Pronounced (say-aught). This has more power than Lightning. Electricty gathers from the air, and him, and attacks his opponant with a barrage of lightning strikes.
-Fire: Reigh tah. Flames either shoot from his hands, or his target erupts in flames. Can be as strong, or benign as he needs it to be.
-Ice: Tsora'na coldar. Same principal as the fire, only made of ice. Can make his body incredibly cold to the touch, almost to freezer burn status, and freeze molecules of air into any shape he wants.
-Light: Kirath. Illuminates everything around him, just him, or a single object.
-Dark: Sibrath. The exact opposite of light.
Ultimate Magic:
These three require nearly all his energy, sometimes causing him to loose conciousness if used back to back.
-Intense Power Gathering: Ikara ma sei pren asei. (Repeated.) A full on frontal attack, using all his energy to shoot a collumn, or wave of pure elemental magic at his enemy. The blast has only been used a few times, but was fatal. This has a tendency to drain his energy to the extent where he is physically weak and can hardly stand.
-Lighting Assault: Vrem'inas luanna dav'ith sa, dav'ith mor. A thunder head forms, showering his opponant from above with a barrage of lightning, a concussion of pure light, and a push wave infused with lightning. Very powerful and very effective.
-Absorbtion (Birthright): His most powerful genetic defense/attack against beings of darkness. He can absorb the power of another magical being into his own if they attack him soul to soul. But this is dangerous. This happens when the highlords attack him and try to push his soul into an abyss filled with a vortex that normaly occurs on the astral plane during the battle. If he ever entered the vortex, his spirit would be lost in Noltach (hell), and the winner would keep his body. He was born with the ability to defeat them in this manner, therefore ripping their essence away, ensuring they will never again be reborn, forever lost in the abyss.
Side effects: -He takes their power for his own, is normaly out for a day or so, and unable to control shocking people through contact with his skin. The higher in power the attacker, the stronger the electric charge.
He absolutly hates this because it's painful, he can feel the absorbtion occuring like a thousand needles piercing his skin simultaniously, and there is always the chance that he won't survive.
Lucky him, this is why he's concidered the Ihanar. Ihanar Is a word in the P'nai tounge meaning 'chosen' or 'bearer of light'. There have only been three magi in history to hold the tital of Ihanar. He is the third.
Gained Power:
-Jezreel: The power of lightning.
-Valk: Illusion. The ability to manipulate what his opponant percieves to be the truth.
-Kalenth and Krevitch; the twin dragons: More elecricity and the power to unit the highlords' power within him.
-Soh'cro'cor: The power of ice.
-Mortain: Telekenisis and persuasion.
-Cassandraelith: The power of the air, though Togurth Dalant obtained this through help from Mason when she attacked Togurth first.
-Tochravanthis, the Krai'ta'or: The ability to pull himself out of time, strengthening the other powers, and the Sight.
Now he has to contend with controlling everything he's learned, and obtained. Big fun.
Weaknesses:
-He's a cronic sleepwalker.
-He's dislikes spiders and cockroaches. Thinks that if suddenly there was a cataclysmic event on Itra, the only things that would be left alive would be Pru and the roaches.
-He doesn't like to fly, but he's getting over it. A temporary fear from being kidnapped by a dragon.
-He doesn't live to fight, but he will if he has to.
-He hates letting his friends down. He's afraid of loosing his friends.
-He's afraid of this whole magical mess he's been thrown head first into. Basically feels like he's been sent up a creek without a paddle.
-He absolutely HATES being called a child. 'Kid' is ok. This acts much like Marty McFly's hatred for being called 'chicken'. Hence, he looses his head.
-He's quick to act in a battle, and has a tendency to get hot headed and act like an arrogant ass.
-Using too much of his magic at once will deplete his energy.
-He thinks he always has to be strong, so he holds his emotions in.
-The destruction of C'reseth and the loss of his home, Nenyara, and the life he knew, is an internal wound that reopens every now and then, and is a major source of anger.
-He feels he can never be helpless.
Likes:
-Chocolate.
-The ocean.
-Traveling at high speeds.
-Coffee.
-Spiced potatoes.
-Just hanging out with the guys.
-Inventions.
-A good mug of ale every now and then.
-The whole 'there use to be magic on Itra' concept.
-Nenyara Kelitari. (Isis in the RP).
-And since the destruction of his village, he's come to care for his new family.
-Jokes. He has to stay sane somehow.
Miscellaneous facts:
-He wears a silver ivy band on the middle finger of his left hand. In the base story (what spurred this idea), it was given to him by Coros. In the RP, he's always had it. In both, he thinks of it as his good-luck charm. (In the rp, he gave it to Isis as her engagment ring).
-His middle name belonged to his father, whom he's never even met, nor even knew that it was his fathers. His last is the family name, and his first is his own. P'nai tradition. Mason never told anyone his middle name because he thought it was weird. He couldn't know that Antarius was a P'nai name meaning "He who prevails."
-He's picked up the hobby of 'slight of hand' magic tricks from various people who'd come into town, and became rather accomplished at it.
-He's curious. It's gotten him in trouble in more cases than he can count.
-He can be stubborn.
-He carries a sword his grandfather forged for him on his sixteenth birthday to celebrate his growth to manhood. It has a silver hilt with an opal inlaid at the base, and the hilt wrapped in leather. The blade is made of strong steal folded over 100 times, and reinforced with magic.
-He knows some tricks with herbology.
-Nimya is his real grandmother, his mother's mother, and Tomalk is his fathers best friend with no blood relation to Mason.
-Every honored house in C'reseth has a crest. There are only 4: the Bree's, the Denair's, the Lohgan's, and the Kelitari's.
-He hates the Svorin Dominion.
-He has an uncanny ability to get himself out of trouble just as fast as he gets into it.
-The P'nai can possess as many as two gifts--a primary and a secondary. Every P'nai holds a Primary--the dominent power--but one out of every 20 are also gifted with a secondary. A third gift is a rarity and only found in one out of every 100 P'nai children. The Ihanar holds a piece of them all.
