Chiltern Cheetahs 12 Oxford Saints 6 (h/t 0-6)
This hard fought game was spoilt by gusting wind and driving rain as both teams struggled to hold on to the wet and muddy ball.
After a few early exchanges of possession half way through the first quarter the Saints scored through a 10-yard Kingsley Ejiogu sweep to the right side. With the conversion failing to be made the score became 0-6 to the Saints. With the rain getting heavier neither team could move the ball for long and the score stayed 0-6 at half time with a promising Chiltern drive terminated by an interception by rookie corner Gareth Havis.
The second half opened with the Cheetahs scoring on their first drive with a 25 yard passing play. They missed an attempted 2-point conversion and the score was levelled at 6-6.
Both teams found it difficult rest of the 3rd quarter both teams kept fumbling the ball as the rain continued. Into the fourth quarter all the pressure was put on the Saints defense with line backer Troy Smith making a number of outstanding tackles to slow the progress of the Cheetahs. However, Chiltern offence got the ball with 10 minutes left and put together the best drive of the day to run in a touchdown from 15 yards out. With the conversion again being missed the score was 12-6.
With less than a minute left on the clock the Saints' quarterback Rob Suttling attempting to force the pace and threw a interception on the 10-yard line enabling the Cheetahs to run out the clock out to win the game.
