Advance Personnel Surge 53 Chiltern Cheetahs 6
With injuries and illness taking their toll a Chiltern side with 6 key players missing took to the field hoping for the win to take them in to the play-offs, but it was not to be. It was down to Travis Magill to lead the team in the absence of flu victim Rob Suttling, but even he was playing with heavy strapping to one ankle.
Chilterns first possession lasted just one play as the ball was fumbled by new signing Brent Barbour playing for the injured Andy Cochrane and the Surge capitalised with their first score of the day. This set the tone for the day with Chilterns offence misfiring putting pressure on their defence, who it must be said played a very solid game holding the Surge on many occasions, but pressure told in the end and the Surge steadily built up the score with six different players getting on the score sheet, the pick of the bunch being Andy Sweeney with two touchdowns.
Chilterns consolation score came from Stewart May with a 61yd touchdown reception from Travis Magill. All in all it was a sad way to finish what has been a good season for Chiltern. "After two barren years it was nice to get back to winning some games" said Chiltern head coach Len Scott, "we can build on this season for a genuine challenge for honours next year".
