The only change that took place in 1990 for the Cheetahs was the names of the teams they were assigned to play, again in the Premier Division of the BNGL. These were the Hampshire Cavaliers, South Coast Sharks, Southampton Seahawks, London Mets, Watford Scorpions and the renamed Kestrels. Unfortunately the Kestrels folded before the end of the season. Darren Whybrow set a new record Vs Hampshire Cavaliers that still stands today, with a 97 yard Kick off return for a Touchdown. Also in 1990 Laurie Wallis rushed for 199 yards and 3 Touchdowns Vs Southside Kestrels.
The team moved home yet again in 1991, this time to Newlands Park College, Chalfont St Giles, which had been used for training in 1990. Another new appointment to the team was Head Coach Jim Brydon. The team were still playing in the BNGL, but had dropped down from the Premier to the First Division, to face the Northsea Hurricanes, Carterton Wildcats, Newbury Bandits, Newmarket Hornets and Stratford Tempests. The team got the season of to a start that no one could or would ever have predicted, as they recorded two drawn games against Northsea 0 - 0 and Newbury 6 - 6. QB Mark Chambers became the first Cheetah to pass for 100 yards (105) Vs Conference Champions Carterton Wildcats.
To prepare for the '92' season, three friendlies were arranged against the Kent Mustangs, London Mets and Carterton Wildcats. After defeats by the stronger Mustangs and Mets, the team spirit was lifted when the '91' Conference Champions, Carterton, were soundly beaten 27 -6. Still in the BNGL First Division, but now in the South Midlands Conference, the team faced two London rookie teams the London Thunder and London Express. Newbury Bandits, Enfield Bullets and our old friends F14 Tomcats made up the remainder of the conference. The season started well with three straight wins all at home with Thunder QB Franco Arellanos being sacked for a team record 9 times, rookie David Gates recording 3 in the opening game of the season. Bob Williams rushed for 133 yards on 15 carries including a 62 yard Touchdown run against Newbury. But then came the struggle with loss of the next four games starting with a 0 - 32 loss at Enfield. London Express folded without playing a game, leaving the team 6 - 4 and missing the play-offs by half a game to the London Thunder. Enfield Bullets had clinched the conference championship title at Newlands Park with Full back Orin Stephens scoring with only a minute to play to hand them a 20 - 16 win.
The '93' season saw changes in the coaching staff again as Jim Brydon said farewell and Steve Hicks and Keith Bark were appointed to run the team. Pre-season games included Crawley Raiders and Ealing Eagles. The season brought new opponents in the form of Swindon Steelers and Woking Generals along with London Thunder, London Mets and Newbury Bandits. After a win 41 - 6 win at Newbury in the first game of the season there was no stopping the Cheetahs, dropping just one game in the regular season at Woking 8 -12 with Generals Running back Phil Honey (who in 1997 become a Cheetah) scoring both of their touchdowns. For the first time in the clubs history the Cheetahs had not only won their conference, but then went on to win their first ever play-off game which was at Newlands Park against Weymouth Renegades; with running backs Mark Lewis, Bob Williams and Jim Carpenter all getting over 100 yards. The next round, Chiltern faced a long trip to Hereford to play the Chargers and conceded 22 points in the first quarter and were never able to get back into the game losing 15-22.
There had been new additions to the team that made a big impact. Running back Mark Lewis recorded 155 yards and 2 touchdowns rushing in the season opener and then went on to record another 8, 100+ yard games to total 1133 yards for the season and 13 touchdowns. New QB Dom Mapleston had a good first season with 8 Touchdown passes with another new recruit Jason Langridge being his main target with 17 catches for 210 yards and 7 touchdowns. The defense was lead by Paul Fildew at linebacker and American Bob Farrington with rookie of the year safety Mike Couser recording 12 Interceptions, 2 of which he returned for touchdowns. The defense only gave up 55 points during the regular season.
Steve Hicks took control of the team as Head coach, with Keith Bark and Mark Lewis becoming Defensive and Offensive co-ordinaters in the newly formed British American Football Association League (BAFA). The opponents for the season were the Cambridge County Cats, Norwich Devils, Colchester Gladiators and Rockingham Rebels along with North Sea Hurricanes in Division 3, Midlands Conference. The season opener at Newlands Park being a reunion for QB Dom Mapleston playing against his former club the Hurricanes, which included his brother Joe. Before the season started a pre-season friendly (or not so friendly) against old rivals F14 Tomcats, ended with a good 29 - 8 win, with rookie Stewart May scoring the first of the many touchdowns of his Chiltern career.
The season ended with a disappointing 2 wins, an 18-14 victory over Norwich and a 25-13 win over Colchester, both at Newlands Park. Highlights included a record breaking 203 rushing yards for Mark Lewis against Rockingham. The game finishing with kicker Leigh Potkin's 50 yard field goal attempt falling just inches short on the last play of game. Rockingham won 20 18, Leigh still went on to record 4 field goals for the season. Also, Stewart May returned a kick-off 85 yards for a touchdown at Norwich.
Brothers Paul and Stuart Fildew both retired from the game at the end of season, both having played for the team since the very beginning and Paul & Jackie Noon (Chairman and Secretary) also ended their long association with the team after many years of hard work.
At the end of the season the team travelled to play in a 7 a side tournament at West Brom, and reached the Quarterfinals before losing to the highly talented Nottingham Hoods.
