“Grandma Rittenhouse” ãRieva Conway 1994

A watercolor study of great grandparent painted from an old photograph

Art was my major in high school and I have been blessed with a talent I’m pleased to share. Throughout my life I have continued to explore many styles, mediums and subject matter. I love people and animals and all of God’s wonderful gifts of nature and have found great pleasure in doing portraits of all in oils, acrylics, pastels and watercolor.

Received a scholarship to study at John Herron Art Institute in Indianapolis while I was still in high school. Also studied portraiture under a professor of art at University of Miami and introduced to impressionism by Russian artist Irv Ostrow in Miami. I have been greatly influenced by the techniques of the “old masters” and chose my college thesis on the life and art of Rembrandt Van Rign.

Raising a family of four children has been a high priority for me, but I have continued my artwork and through shows, exhibitions, reputation and recommendations have received mostly commissioned work. I continue to do portraits from photographs and composites from several photos. I have enjoyed the pleasure of sharing my love of art teaching summer art camp to children grades 1 through 12 and to private senior citizens groups. I have also had the honor of painting a portrait of a former Vice President and his son (through a personal association with one of the family members).

My gallery is composed of photos of what I consider to be the “best” examples of my work. Most were commissioned works but I will note if the piece is for sale. The following photos are of commissioned portraits of pets and people. .
