The Decision

Naomi laid the little basket on the cold dusty ground. She pulled the blanket a little tighter around the sleeping child within it. Tears streamed down her face as she gave up the one thing she loved more than anyt6hing, but she felt she just couldnt do it anymore. They had just been kicked out of their apartment by yet another abusive boyfriend. She still hadnt been able to find a job, mostly because no one wanted to hire a teenage mother, and right now they were living out of an old car Naomi had managed to buy. She shivered as the cold wind tore through her. It seemed the monastery was her only hope. She knew they wouldnt keep the boy, but maybe they could guide social services to find a good home for her precious son.

She started to turn away from her tiny little boy, but found she couldnt. She scooped him to her breast with a pain filled cry.

Im sorry Sweetie, so sorry. I just cant. Youre  everything to me. Well make it somehow. I know we will.

She turned back to the rusty little car, her baby secure in her arms. Other mothers were making it, she told herself, she would too, but she couldnt give up her beautiful little boy.

Inside the monastery, Brother Jeremy smiled as he watched the young mother walk away.
