Blair stood in the little hospital room, tears streaking
down his face as he watched as his former girlfriend
Chris took her dying breaths. It had been years since he
had last seen her, and had been quite a shock when he
received the call that had changed everything.
She had requested his presence. At the time, she was the
last person he had ever expected to hear from again. He
had joined her at the little Oregon hospital, and
listened as she told him she still cared for him and
wanted to be with him for her final days.
He had held her hand through all the torturous
treatments for the cancer that was quickly destroying
her body. Had cried with her when the pain became
overwhelming. Then finally he had given her his word he
would care for her final gift to him.
He turned, his little daughter Arianna balanced
carefully on one hip. He would protect this gift with
his life.
Now he just had to explain their new roommate to Jim.
