Here are a couple of screen shots of my desktop while I'm working on the site. Many people still assume that we Linux users do everything from the command line, but as you can see the Linux desktop environment is quite evolved (this happens to be GNOME with the Metacity window manager on top of Red Hat 8), and much more customizable than Windows.
This one shows while I am working on the database which is the backbone of my system. You can see
MySQL Navigator on top which I use to sort the database by race results or total points, the trusty
terminal where I reload the database entries, and GNUmeric, the spreadsheet where I do the initial
data entry. This is
one of four virtual desktops. At the same time, I have another virtual desktop which looks like
the one below.
This is my desktop where I'm working on the website itself. You see the web
browser Konqueror on top where I'm checking the page, with a sliver of gEdit the text editor
underneath (used for quick & dirty find & replace functions), and the workhorse website
tool Quanta taking up the most destop real estate.
