Where do they get this stuff?
Acheri - the ghosts of little girls who bring disease, especially to children. They live on mountaintops and enter the valleys during the night to spread disease by casting their shadows over their victims. Children are protected from them by amulets of red thread tied around their necks.
Churel - In India they are the evil ghosts of women who have died in childbirth or ceremonial impurity. They are also ghosts of low-caste persons, whose corpses were buried face down to prevent the ghosts from escaping. They have reversed feet and no mouths. They haunt squalid places. They take on the shape of a beautiful young woman and ensnare young men and hold them captive until they are old. Exorcisms are performed when they are present.
