Henniken, Mary Wallace
Six foot Mary Wallace haunts her former home, appearing every Halloween in a carriage pulled by six horses. She’s described as having auburn hair, being in her thirties, and wearing a white dress. Louis Roy, a one-time owner of the house, claimed that she saved his life 19 times, once helping him into the house when he was trapped outside by falling trees during a storm. His mother, Mrs. Roy, has also seen Mary’s ghost many times and is currently haunting the property herself, although she is described as being not so friendly and she may have killed her daughter.
In the 1950’s Life did an article on famous ghost-haunted houses, which featured Mary’s home. Two state troopers met Mary’s ghost walking up the road to the house. She was wearing Colonial-styled clothing. Visitors have felt special vibrations inside the home when touching the hearthstone, which is where the body of “Johnny” Don Pedro the infamous pirate is supposed to be buried. Vibrations are often felt around the fireplace.
Mrs. James Nisula of Londenderry had a group of ghost buffs who felt vibrations around the kitchen. A medium named Lorri saw Mary the first time she visited the house. Whenever she touched anything inside the house she received vibrations of what it was like when Mary lived there. Once, when walking through the bushes outside the house, she felt that Mary was protecting her legs, for she didn’t receive a single scratch. She once felt her arm and elbow grabbed in the living room by the ghost of Mrs. Roy. Once she felt the presence of Mary Wallace in her home in Weymouth near Boston. She often worried that Mary would try to take over her body for her own purposes. She once allowed Mary’s ghost to do some automatic writing through her, refusing to go into trance. She later gave a two-part interview to the Boston Record-American. She felt so drawn to the house that she once awoke to find herself driving there in the middle of the night in her sleep.
A psychic photographer, Hans Holzer , found himself postponing many visits to the house and suspecting that the ghost might have been intentionally keeping him away.
Once, on the stairwell, Mary put out a fire that would have burned down the entire house. A tall women showed someone around half the house one day when no one was present. A couple was once driving to the house and in the midst of argument about whether or not to go (she felt drawn toward it, he felt repulsed) when the car door flew open on its own. Two women once heard a heavy door opening and closing without an explanation.
David Russel lived in the house and once heard heavy footsteps in the rooms above him at night. On another occasion, he heard someone pounding loudly on the door, but no one was there. Then the knob began to twist and turn on its own. His dog refused to follow him into the cellar. Ernest Walbourne heard a female voice inside the loom or death room telling him to leave the house. There are supposedly secret passageways underneath the house.
A sceance was recorded, but they had trouble with the equipment, including strange sounds that kept intruding onto the tapes. The medium involved claimed that there were people buried around or in the house enclosed by a stone wall. Mary had reportedly had a vault installed for herself inside the house.
Sybil Leek, a famed British psychic, was drawn to a spot outside the house, by the irises. She went into a trance to contact Mary’s ghost, who revealed many facts about the house and property that Sybil couldn’t possibly have known, including the whereabouts of buried pirate’s treasure and personal facts about Mary and Don Pedro’s life.
