| TITLE: The Witches AUTHOR: Roald Dahl RECOMENDED READING AGE:7-12 |
||||||||||||||||||||
| The Witches is one of Roald Dahl's best books. It is a story about "real" witches. Not the ones who fly on broomsticks and stir frog eyes in a pot but the witches in this book are women who for the most part seem normal but are really nothing but evil. All witches want is to wipe children off the face of the Earth. The story is about a boy whos Grandma lived in a town in which witches were very common. From her experiences she knows lot about witches and teaches all she knows to the grandson. Then one day when the boy and his Grandmother were on vacation the boy over hears witches agreeing to a plan in which they turn all the children in England into mice. In the process he is caught and turned into a mouse himself. But he still has the ability to talk so he can tell his Grandmother of his experience, which starts them on an adventure to save all the children of England. Roald Dahl not only figures out an ingenious plot, he executes it marvelously. The Witches is definitely a good choice for those who want to read a great book. | ||||||||||||||||||||
