Author's Note: Here were are, chapter 6! And we've got sex! Not very gratuitous, but it's sex! This time we're going into the lives of the main characters. There's no plot devoloping just yet, but I'll get to it eventually. When I feel like it.
He didn’t know how long he was asleep, but something grabbed the back of his shirt and hauled him away from Lisa. He tried to get back to her, but Lucian’s voice was loud and booming in his ear. He turned and swatted at the werewolf and was promptly punched in the gut and slammed hard into a hard surface. He got up and met Lucian’s fist head on, taking the full hit and paying back the werewolf in kind. They wrestled on the floor, Lucian snarling and tearing into Cian’s clothes and muscle and tissue while the vampire screamed profanities and used every ounce of his power to literally electrocute Lucian. The fight could have gone either way, with one or both of them dying, but there were two pairs of eyes that stopped the finality.
“You son of a bitch! I told you to stay away from her!” Lucian screamed into Cian’s ear.
Cian wiped his face with the back of his hand and rubbed his sore hearing organs. “I can hear you just fine, you don’t need to yell.”
Lisa kicked at Lucian’s shoulder. “Get off of him.”
“What the hell are you doing with him?” Lucian shouted, noticing that Lisa was wearing nothing but a bra.
“Last time I checked, I was sleeping.”
“With him?”
“They were kissing when I came in.” Aaron supplied.
Lisa and Cian looked at Aaron who held up his hands in a universal gesture of innocence. He stepped away and disappeared into the shadows. Lisa pushed at Lucian and looked at the blood splattered over the once-immaculate white walls. She glared at her brother and decided to give the same treatment to Cian.
“You two are like little boys fighting over a toy.” Then it hit her. “I am not a fucking toy!”
“But you are fucking him!” Lucian accused her.
“We were just kissing!”
“First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby in Lisa’s fucking vampire carriage!” Lucian finished. He pushed off the floor and stormed out of the room.
“Asshole!” Lisa screamed after him. She turned to the vampire. “It’s your fault, too, because you should have known better than to get ripped up by him.”
“He started it.” Cian mumbled. “I was just defending myself.” He took off the rest of his clothes and had the pleasure of seeing Lisa stare at him. He was going to need a shower and he was curious if Lisa would join him. But noticing she had taken a few steps back meant she was in no mood for a little foreplay. He sighed and looked at the bedside clock. Five minutes. He had been asleep for five minutes. Oh, how he wished Lucian would make a move on his sister so he could bust his balls. He would beat down Lucian so badly the werewolf would tuck tail and run.
“Go take a shower or something.” Said Lisa, her words slurring. “I need some sleep.”
Cian nodded and watched her climb into his bed again. His mind drifted off and he imagined himself lying in bed, waiting for her, watching her get under the covers. He could almost feel his mouth on her skin again, could feel her body shudder with anticipation as he touched and caressed. The feeling was too powerful and he had to bite his tongue to remember where he was. Lisa had fallen asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow and he was content with the fact that she was in his bed. One day he’d have more than just a daydream.
He took a quick shower, reasoning that he needed just a few hours sleep. He dressed in black silk pajamas and made it a point to leave his shirt unbuttoned. He pulled on a matching silk robe that fell to his ankles and stalked around his condo, catching the wind wherever he walked making him look utterly dramatic even if he didn’t have an audience. He paced his living room, every-so-often glancing into his bedroom where he had left the door wide open. His darling Lisa was still sleeping, still partially undressed, and deliciously wrapped in his sheets. He wanted to invade her dreams and make love with her there, their own private world, but he knew how tired she was. He had just taken blood from her and it would be unfair to work her to the bone...so to speak. He sighed and sat on one of the couches, leaving his erotic fantasies to rest until she was well enough to contend with him.
He was trying to get some sleep, but could still hear Zoe’s infuriating music. Strangely, there was something in the bass that had the walls thumping. Curious, Cian got up again and strolled towards her room. He stopped short because Lucian’s door was closed. Knowing not to get into another fight with the werewolf in fear of getting Lisa upset, he decided not to open the door. But the door was closed which wasn’t normal for the werewolf who didn’t want him to go near his sister. He shrugged and pushed the door open, finding no one, not even a trace of Lucian in the room. Yes, the bed had been moved and used, but the werewolf was nowhere to be...
Cian turned his head towards Zoe’s room. The thumping against the walls became a little more erratic, frenzied, as if two people were... The vampire glided silently across the hall and leaned his head against the door. Had he really been concentrating, he would have known that the radio was just a ploy to throw him off guard. But as he listened, he could hear the guttural groans of the werewolf and the breathy gasps of his sister. He was never one to interrupt ground shaking events such as this, but he was a little curious as well as understandably pissed off. Lucian didn’t want him to go near Lisa? Lucian had married into the Mayfair family, so they weren’t blood related. He and Zoe had the same mother which made them blood, but he couldn’t be the overprotective brother? Oh, he was definitely going to watch and relay it to them both, in detail, of their little late-night escapade.
He opened the door a tiny crack and immediately saw what he came for. Even in the dark Lucian was a large shadow, towering over his five-foot six sister. The radio was on the desk at the foot of her bed, with her speakers facing the door for maximum sound buffering.
Unfortunately for her, there was nothing for her to hide behind since the walk to the door and the bed were clear and he could see the entire show. Lucian braced his hands on the wall while he surged his hips forward, practically lifting Zoe off the bed. She writhed under him, her hands digging into his hips while her back arched and she grated against his body. The whole scene seemed to have come from one of Cian’s movies. Even the music seemed to heighten the mood. It wasn’t like Zoe’s usual musical preference, it was some sort of Gothic rock with its haunting melody and mechanical, thumping bass. If Cian was the director he would have wanted more emphasis on Lucian’s face and body and maybe center a bit on where they were joined. Then again, he was just a performer not a director and what he was seeing was fine and dandy to him.
He watched for a few more minutes, shaking his head when he saw the tell-tale signs of exhaustion. Had they both had a good night’s rest, they could have gone longer, but he could sympathize with their fatigue. Lucian thrust home hard enough to have Zoe screaming bloody murder, but she seemed to enjoy those last few movements and she collapsed back onto the bed, a smile on her face and respect in her eyes. Lucian bent his head towards her and kissed her, almost licking her like a puppy to its master. He almost choked on the way Lucian kissed his sister, but it wasn’t his face so it shouldn’t have mattered to him. He shut the door with a soft click and hurried to the bathroom. Never again would he use the term ‘doggy-style’ so loosely.
Zoe turned her head to the door and looked back at Lucian. She could have sworn someone was watching him and she’d be damned if it was Cian. She shuddered at the thought and wrapped her arms around Lucian’s waist. She, of all people, would have never imagined sleeping with her roommate’s brother. She tried remembering how they had gotten into bed together, but she was too sleepy. She felt him shift his weight off of hers and settled next to her, burying his head into the back of her neck and tickling her with butterfly kisses. He was a warm weight against her back and she welcomed the warmth, falling asleep before she could even fathom what Lisa would say.
Morning came three hours later. The sun shone brightly, breakfast was being cooked, and all of Cian’s guests were wide awake. Sort of.
Lisa had pulled on a robe that had been left for her on the bed. It was white, warm, and smelled like the sea-salty cliffs of Ireland. It was a term Aaron used and Lisa had no doubt that he was right. She sat with her legs curled up on the chair while Aaron bustled around the kitchen, filling out orders for the other two of Cian’s guests.
“Where’s fang-face?” Lucian asked, yawning. He had remembered to put his shirt back on and was surreptitiously rubbing Zoe’s thigh under the table.
“He is...busy.” Aaron said, flipping pancakes while tending to the bacon. He glanced at Lisa whose only order was tea. “Are you sure you want nothing to eat?”
“I’m fine.” Lisa answered. She stretched, knowing her brother had seen what she wore underneath, which was just her bra and underwear. Sometime, during her sleep, she had taken off her pants. She didn’t know whether she was hot or it was that semi-erotic dream she had, but she needed the coolness of the silk sheets. She awoke, somehow rejuvenated and Cian nowhere to be seen.
Zoe laughed as she drank her cup of hot chocolate, shooting glances at Lucian who shared the same laugh and smile. She wanted to hug him, to kiss him, but Lisa was sitting opposite him. She resolved to just sitting and letting Lucian have his way with her. Not that he didn’t have his way with her last night.
Cian appeared in a wave of black silk. He still wore his pajamas and let his shirt hang open, while he smoothed a hand through his hair and moved around the kitchen to stand behind Lisa. He bent over her, kissing her neck and turning her head so he could capture her lips. He ignored Lucian’s growls and kneeled behind Lisa, trailing a hand down the left side of her neck, the place where he had bitten her. He stared at Lucian and showed him the marks and had the pleasure of seeing Lucian’s hackles rise.
“You son of a-”
“Why don’t you tell Lisa what you two did last night?” Cian asked, setting another kiss on Lisa’s neck. He smiled gleefully when Lisa turned her gaze on Lucian. “Do you want to tell her or should I?”
“I knew it!” Zoe screamed. “You were watching us...er...um...”
“What?” Lisa asked. She looked at her friend, then her brother, then Cian. When she still got no response from either one of them, she shot one suspicious look at Lucian then turned back to Cian. “What were they doing last night?”
“Well, you see, after the impromptu tussle with Lucian, I took a shower, as you well know.”
“Yeah.” Lisa nodded her head, watching Lucian and Zoe from the corner of her eye. “I fell asleep soon afterwards. I suspect you were still up long after that.”
“You have no idea how long I was up.” Cian said in a low, seductive tone. He laughed when he saw Lucian’s eyes flash with anger and swore he saw the depths of hell in those eyes. He continued. “Well, after much debating whether to invade your dreams or not, I heard quite a ruckus coming from Zoe’s room.”
“Don’t you dare.” Zoe said lowly. “Cian, that’s low, even for you.”
“Low?” Cian asked, raising an eyebrow. “You’re the ones that are sneaking behind our backs and you’re calling me ‘low’?”
“It’s a natural occurrence for you to fuck everyone you see, but when it concerns me and Zoe, it’s headlines news all of a sudden!” Lucian shouted. “You are such a hypocrite!”
“At least I don’t lie to my sister.” Cian said softly.
Lisa looked at Zoe with wide eyes. “You slept with my brother?”
“We were talking about how he and Cian got into a fight. And...” She desperately tried to remember the conversation that had inevitably led to sex, but she couldn’t. “One thing led to another and...it happened.”
Lisa’s head tipped forward slightly then aligned. She turned to her brother. “You’re bitching at Cian not to come near me and you do a one-eighty and literally do my best friend? Look who’s being a hypocrite, Lucian.”
“It’s not the same, Lisa.” Lucian argued.
“How is it not the same?” Lisa demanded. “Cian doesn’t want you near Zoe, but you’re right there in her room, having sex with her! If Cian had attempted that last night, we would have gone home right there and then.”
Lucian let out a heavy sigh. “What do you propose we do then?”
“He’s showing considerable restraint.” Lisa pointed out. “You should show him the same courtesy.”
“What?” Lucian growled. “Let him fuck you?”
“No! Get you mind out of the gutter.” Lisa mumbled. “It’s obvious you and Zoe like each other a lot and though Cian’s not ranting and raving like you, on some level it’s okay with him. So, show him the same courtesy when we’re together.”
“You want to be with this fuck-everything-he-sees porn star?” Lucian said, leaning so far over the table that he was glowering both at Lisa and Cian.
“Him being an adult film star bothers me a little, but he has other qualities that overshadow that fact. He wants to be with me. He has no ulterior motive and he’s shown me that numerous times. And...I do want to be with him because he makes me feel special.”
“Hell, Lisa, you are special!” Lucian yelled. “You’re a Mayfair which is why he wants to be with you!”
“That’s not it at all!” Lisa screamed, standing and pushing her face into Lucian’s. “Did you ever think that the reason he wants to be with me is because he loves me?”
“How can something like that be in love with you?”
Taken aback, Lisa sat on the chair, looking up at her brother in astonishment. “Are you saying that no one can love me or is he not capable of loving someone?”
Lucian crossed his arms and bit his tongue. If he responded to that question in any way, he’d be damned to saying no one was capable of loving his sister and that man wasn’t capable of loving his sister. He lowered his head and shook his head. “That’s not what I meant.”
“Then what did you mean?” Lisa asked, her eyes on the brink of tears, but her face so dead serious he was sure she was coming up with a spell.
After a long silence, Lucian looked into his sister’s eyes. “You know what? Fine. You two can date for all I care. You can be with him if you want, but don’t come crying to me when he’s fucking someone else or his entire goddamn harem and ignoring you. Don’t come to me when you’re pregnant and he’s off in some studio having someone suck his cock every other hour.”
Lisa clasped her hands in front of her, choosing not to respond. She glanced at Zoe and though she wasn’t upset with her, it was a bit of her fault, too. She turned to Cian and he wrapped his arms around her, holding her like he was the last solid thing in her world. She heard him speak, but she didn’t care enough to listen. Whatever Lucian had said had hurt her beyond any mortal wound.
“You will never talk to her like that again.” Cian warned Lucian. “Her happiness is my priority.”
“Shove it up your ass.” Lucian snarled. He turned and walked out of the kitchen. “I’m going to work.”
“I should be going, too.” Zoe said quietly. She didn’t know what to say, only that she should have shown a little compassion or caution when it came to the subject of sex and sleeping with a roommate’s brother. She’d take a quick shower first, to wake herself up, then she’d head down to the old meeting place and get her clients for the day.
Aaron stood in the middle of the kitchen, looking at the plates of food he had carefully prepared and turned to look at the master vampire. He was certainly not going to eat everything on the assorted plates and he doubted Lisa or Cian could do the same. He didn’t want to dump the food but if he had to...
“Send them down to the guards below. I’m sure they haven’t had breakfast yet.” Cian murmured against Lisa’s hair. She wasn’t crying, just leaning on him for support.
“Of course.” Aaron said. But he paused at the doorway and set down a plate of pancakes. “For Miss Mayfair, in case she’s hungry.”
Cian nodded and waited until Aaron had left the premises. There were two ways the day could have gone for the better. The first scenario was that he could take her into the bedroom, indulge in a little foreplay, and then make love with her until neither one of them could walk straight. The second scenario, though it involved no foreplay or lovemaking, but a lot of sexual innuendo’s, was for the both of them to spend some time together without Lucian butting in or Zoe making smart-ass remarks. As tempting as the first scenario sounded, he would have much preferred to get to know the love of his life. Nothing said ‘I love you’ more than knowing what made her smile or laugh or even got her in the mood. It was better to find out before hand rather than go through it by trial and tribulation. He wanted his relationship with her to be flawless, he wanted no secrets between them, and he especially wanted to be the only man who gave her the greatest and most intense pleasure she had ever experienced. He rubbed his chin over her hair and told her of his plan for the day.
“You waste no time, do you?” Lisa asked against his shoulder.
Cian shrugged, running his fingers through her unbound hair. “As much time as I have being immortal, I don’t like wasting it when I can spend it with you.”
“You sure talk pretty.” Lisa mumbled. She turned her head so that she was staring at the wall. “So, what do we do first? Is it like a date or something?”
“Not really a date.” Answered the vampire. “We’re just...getting to know each other. I’ll try to figure out your secrets, whatever puts you in the mood, what’s your favorite color, things like that, and you’ll do the same to me. Though, I doubt without as much finesse as I.”
Lisa pulled back enough to look at Cian’s face. “One thing is for sure, you are arrogant.”
“One of my...less defining qualities.”
“Well, it depends on how, when, and on whom you use it on.” Lisa replied. “I think it’s okay for someone to be a little arrogant, but don’t become a straight-out asshole in front of me.”
“Really? I’ll make sure not to act like Lucian from now on.”
Cian winced visibly and expected Lisa to frown at him. If it was one thing talking about someone’s brother, it was another thing talking about them after an argument. He took Lisa’s hands in his and thought up a quick apology. Instead, his darling Lisa was laughing and she seemed completely indifferent to the implication. Relaxing, he kissed her knuckles.
“Darling, why don’t you get dressed and I’ll cancel any meetings and photo shoots I have scheduled for today?”
“Actually,” Lisa looked around for a clock. “I don’t think today is a good day. I still have to file papers about the execution I did last night and-”
“Didn’t Lucian say he was going to work?” Cian asked, hopeful. “Doesn’t he have all the evidence needed to file your precious papers?”
“That’s right.” Lisa said, nodding. “He does have all the paperwork. You know what? Screw him! I’ll take the day off today. If they need me, they can call me on my phone!”
“What phone?” Cian asked. “I didn’t know you had a phone.”
Lisa’s eyes widened and she shot towards the bedroom. Cian moved to the chair and sat, waiting, poking at the cooling pancakes and looking forward to Lisa’s proclamation. It wasn’t until five minutes later that Lisa came back into the kitchen and sat down, crossing her arms.
“Well?”
“Lucian has my phone.”
“Isn’t that convenient?” Cian murmured. “Look at it this way, if they need you, Lucian can look for you himself. Whenever I’m not at home, the call will be forwarded to my phone, wherever I’m at. My number is listed, so he can just pick up a directory and look me up.”
“You think of everything.” Lisa sighed, a little put out that her new vampire boyfriend was a little too perfect for her less-than-perfect life.
“Not everything.” Cian replied. “I’m not perfect, darling. I don’t always have an answer.”
Lisa mumbled under her breath, “Could have fooled me.”
Cian choose to ignore that comment and pushed the plate towards her. “Darling, why don’t you have a bite and then we can leave?”
“Sure.” Lisa murmured. She accepted a fork and a healthy does of syrup and began cutting the fluffy pieces into tiny triangles. She began to eat with slow deliberation, thinking of what had transpired in the past few hours. She was halfway done when she remember what Cian had said as he gave her the pancakes. Darling, why don’t you have a bite and then we can leave? For some reason it bothered her and she surreptitiously placed a hand on the left side of her neck. She froze as if she had heard something out of the ordinary and slid her hand over the pinpricks. It was a little sore, possibly bruised, but it was definitely there.
“Cian!” Lisa shouted. She turned and collided into said vampire. He raised and eyebrow at her summons, then saw her hand over her neck. He waited until she spoke.
“What the hell is this?” Lisa screamed. For all her human nature, she could have had a large, cut-out finger with deliberate neon signs pointing to her neck.
“If I recall last night, you said I could feed from you.”
“Yeah, but...I thought...”
Cian’s eyes darkened, his voice coming out like a soft purr. “You thought that with a simple caress of my tongue the pinpricks would be gone?”
Lisa nodded her head, wishing for some ice for her neck and a good kick in the head for Cian. She couldn’t go to out with a world-class love bite from a notorious porn star.
“I want everyone to know that you are mine, darling. Especially your brother.”
Lisa’s eyes narrowed. “Which is why we had the big argument, right? You saw them in the room, you showed Lucian this bite.”
“I was only pushing things along. I wasn’t trying to be malicious.”
“Malicious, my ass.” Lisa snarled.
“And what a lovely ass you have, darling.”
“Oh, shut up.” Lisa pushed him away and stormed towards the bedroom. “Where are my clothes?”
“Same place where you put them, darling. On the floor.”
Cian smiled and looked at the half-eaten plates of food. Would his darling Lisa forgive him if she could no longer eat the food of humans? Would she hate him for turning her into a creature of the night? Could she stomach feeding from strangers? An even better question: could he stand seeing her feed from strangers? For every action, there was a consequence...and he hated it.
Lisa came back into the kitchen, her hair down over her shoulders. Since she had no clothes with her, she wore the same outfit a last night. No matter, she and Cian were impeccably matched in their black-clothes scheme.
“Aaron will be up in a moment.” Cian said, softly. “He has my schedule.”
