Dan our eldest at 23, then Phill who was 20 Alex 18, Sam 13 Zak 9 Sonny 6 Casey 2
Dan and Sam had been out for the day at my friends house, with myself. I was staying over. Dan and sam along with thier friend left my friends house, around 6pm. Little did i know that would be the last time, I would se Dan alive. my last words to him were, "Take care."
They had dropped of thier friend and were heading home. They were nearly home, as we live on the main road from Wroxham to Stalham.
Sam who was a front seat passenger, was able to tell us just what happened.
They were going around 60 mph, they joined a group of 3 cars at the church. They followed this line of cars, Dan checked to make sure it was safe to overtake on a straight bit of the road. He indicated to overtake. When for no reason Stuart Antony Grapes pulled out towards them. A witness states grapes had straddled the centre line a little while before.
He pulled out towards my two sons causing Dan to swerve his car to avoid this idiot hitting him, as a result his wheel caught an uneven part of the edge of the rd causing him to loose control. He tried to control his car and had it heading to a gap inbetween two cars. The first car in the line up applied his brakes, with the result that Dans car hit his. this is turn sent Dans car rolling into a field.
Sam nightmares this every night. Sam has been consistant with his story, right from the time he was found lying beside the car, after managing to untangle himself from the wreck, taking his seat belt off and slithering through what we have been told was a very tiny space that was left. Daniels seatbelt snapped. He was thrown about 10 foot from his car.
While my son lay dying 20 minutes it took. Someone at the scene stole his money from his wallet and also his driving license. They also all ignored little Sam crying for help. No doubt in my mind all making up thier version of the accident.
My other two older boys came accross the accident. They were the ones who had to confirm who dan and sam were, and to also have to tell us his parents. They like Sam will never have peace in their hearts.
STUART ANTONY GRAPES KILLED MY SON THEN LIED ABOUT IT. HE ALSO RUINED DIRECTLY SAM PHILL AND ALEXS LIVES. AND INDIRECTLY ZAK SONNY AND LITTLE CASEYS LIVES.
How gutless is that, personally I would,nt be able to live with such a LIE.
But then he is not the one who has to try to explain to these little boys why Dan isn,t coming home. He isn,t the one who is there when they sob for Dan is he.
He hasn,t got to go to a church to see his children.
We will always love and miss Dan very much.
Dan had a baby daughter 5 months after he died. Morgan is a wonderfull little girl and he would be so proud of her.
We have had so much support from our pastor and church family at our local Baptist church, and also from some very good friends. Without this we would never have got this far. So a big thankyou.
