| READING AND WRITING |
| Most of you might already be familiar with the Japanese sounds and writing systems. Japanese is a purely phonetic language, which makes it easy to learn and easy to say. There are three writing systems in Japanese: HIRAGANA (The basic Japanese characters, 48 in total) KATAKANA (Basic Japanese characters, 48 in total, often used for foreign/borrowed words) KANJI (Adopted from the Chinese language, Kanji has thousands of characters with an "on" and "kun" reading. Take your time, and write out each character at least 10 times to get used to how it looks, how the stroke order goes and how it is pronounced. Don't rush, as you will most probably forget what you learned. Most of all, have fun! Japanese is a beautiful language, and each character is of art. Ganbatte kudasai minna! -Chiki |
