| A KIMONO A Kimono is the Japanese traditional dress. Usually it is worn on special occasions, such as New Year's or certain birthday celebrations. It is said that for older women and married people, the sleeves to their kimonos are shorter and the color of their kimono is of a dark color: Gold, black, rich red, etc. |

For younger girls, the sleeves are usually longer, and the material of light colors. An OBI is put around the waist, and slippers called GETA are on the feet. (Wooden sandals) Split toe socks called "TABI" are worn with the GETA. Obis come in many colors and some Kimonos come in many layers. The sleeves were used as pockets, back then. Nowadays, people still wear it, but in my opinion it doesn't really hold marital status. Men also wear Kimonos, but with darker colors and of course, shorter sleeves. One more thing: Kimonos are EXPENSIVE. They are usually made of silk. |
