PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION is time-consuming, but safe and reliable.

THE BUS is cheap and easy to ride. (200 yen downtown and nearby neighborhoods)
1. You can ride one route west from Takenokoshi (
|z) toward Sakae (h) and Nagoya (É) Station and east toward Hikiyama (R), Fujigaoka (u) and Seto City (ˎs).
2. A second route goes directly to Chayagasaka (
) and dead ends at Ikeshita (r), on the Higashiyama subway line.
3. Another route heads toward Issha (
), the subway station nearest school, so you can ride it to get to work (but it will probably take about 30 minutes to get there).

THE SUBWAY's a bit more expensive, and less accessible (about 10 min. bike ride from the apartment), but it's faster than the bus in most situations, and runs about an hour later every night. The station nearest the apartment is Chayagasaka, on the Meijo (purple) Line.

TAXIS are typically the last resort for after-hours travel. Expect to pay up to 4,000 yen or more from downtown to the apartment.

TIME TABLES AND SCHEDULES:

These bus and subway routes are Japanese-only, but they should give you some rough ideas of time schedules and routes even if the text is inaccessible. (You can ask a sensei to help you translate if need be.)

A company called Meitetsu runs one set of buses, which go all the way to the Meitetsu Bus Center (
SoXZ^|). This bus is incredibly convenient and cheap if you are traveling out of Nagoya and need to head toward Nagoya Station to catch a JR, Meitetsu or Kintetsu line. Another set of buses is run by the city and only head and dead-end at Sakae. Both sets run the same exact east-west route and charge the same fare.
