The Transamerica Pyramid is San Francisco's tallest building. The area of each floor varies greatly, due to the building's distinctive pyramidal shape. There was a design problem with having the sloping sides, as lifts are unable to go at slants. It was solved by having wings at the side of the building to carry the lifts (elevators).
