New York City
New York is the largest city of the U.S.A, and is known throughout the world as a major cultural melting pot, as well as one of the world's great cities. New York has a vast array of skyscrapers, of which no other city, except perhaps Hong Kong and Shanghai can rival. The city's skyscrapers date from the early 20th century to the beginning of this century, including the Empire state building (1931) and the Chrysler building (1929).
The city currently has a population of about 8 million people, with 21 million people in it's metropolitan area. The city is located in the north east of the U.S.A, and at the south of New York state.
As well as it's skyscrapers, New York has other famous landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty. A gift from France, the hundred metre tall statue stands proud over New York's harbour, and was once the city's tallest structure.
The magnificent art-deco Chrysler building
The Empire State Building, for several decades the world's tallest skyscraper, is still New York's tallest skyscraper, and is the city's most famous building.
