Glasgow is Scotland's biggest city, with over 600,000 inhabitants in the city itself, with a million+ people including the suburbs and nearby surrounding area. The old medieval town was almost entirely torn down by ruthless Victorian architects; in turn, much Victorian architecture was lost due to forward thinking strategies of the 1960s and 70s, which we now look back at as disasters. The only remaining medieval buildings in the city are Provand's Lordship and the cathedral. The M8 motorway cuts through the city, which is at points one of the United Kingdom's widest roads. The city has an abundance of residential high-rises, mostly of about 20 storeys. Despite this, there is nothing over 100 metres in the city, bar the Science Tower. |
