The poem that the mouse recites and how Alice sees it in her mind changes her perception.  Another poet who experimented with the way words appeared on a page was E.E. Cummings.  Two examples are below "The Sky Was" and "My Darling Since"
How Alice percieves the strange events going on around her confuses or changes her view of herself, the people and events in her life, and even her lessons.

Does the way these poems and the poem by the mouse is written seem abusurd or foolish to you?
Try this poetic writing style yourself at this great website.  Then briefly compare the exaggerated scenes in the first three chapters to the use of text in Cumming's poems.  You don't have to tell me what they mean, just why they affect you differently than the tradional ways you're use to reading a story or poem.
