Bishop

Bishop, CA has amazing bouldering.  The scenery is awesome.  During the day it is about 65 and at night it is 30 degrees - cold and windy.  Topaz has become the Lizard huntress.  She is occupied all day long with this activity.  The coffee shops are full of climbers that you see in magazines and on climbing videos.  There is a place where you can do laundry and take a shower.  It is appropriately named The Wash Tub.  We are camped next to gypsies who juggle fire and hoola hoop.  It is like watching TV.

This was our first day here.  We are awestruck!
Here is our friend Jessica.  We met her in Hueco and now our paths have crossed again.  The boulders are huge and plentiful.  Some are kind of slopey, scary top outs and some of the down climbs will make you think.  I am learning the area and trying to trust my feet - they will stick, they have to!
Here is Rachel in front of the Iron Man Traverse.  The snow looks so close, but thankfully the days are warm enough to wear t-shirts.
So there are good days and bad days.  Rachel and I had what we are now referring to as Spooky Tuesday.  It started with us dreaming about the same person.  Topaz killed a mouse by throwing it around like a rag doll.  We went to the Pollen Grain Boulders to meet up with some other climbers.  Maybe they didn't show because it was snowing?  Maybe they realized that these boulders are too tall to climb without a rope.  Really people, I know that they are "boulders", but at 40 feet shouldn't it have a rope??  I guess I am a wimp or I really like my ankles.  We started to rename the boulders things like - ankle braker boulder, suicide boulder, the I hate myself boulder, g-had boulder, one foot in the ground boulder.  It was amusing to us anyway.

Holy Crap that is tall - 40 feet to the top!

Josh spotting me.  If you didn't know he has a black belt in Spaten. Sorry Rach, they might be the best boots in the world, but they are never going to match the pants.
Yikes! Nature and stuff.  I guess it was time for the rattlesnakes to come out and time for us to go. Topaz doesn't do very well in the cold.  She had to wear the sweater grandma made for her and wrap up in a down blanket.

The rest of our pictures are on snapfish.  Check them out if you wish.
