Wut's happn'n Central Florida?  July 2004 updates
Aloha everyone on August 18th

Let's start things off with the
Watermen's Challenge held behind Natural Art Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach.  Although conditions weren't as great as last year's 2nd annual contest, it didn't stop the competitors from putting on a great show.  Peak performances were demonstrated by longboard professional shawn bowman, legend Melody DeCarlo, whom also placed in the shorboard division, and Crystal Duff winning the women's shortboard final.   For more information go to www.floridatoday.com under the sports section.
Hurricane Charley certainly took a toll on thousands of central Florida victims.  Crashing from Fort Myers to the Central/North east coast, destroying anything in it's path.  Unfortunately, Charley didn't produce much surf for the hopefuls wishing for that promising swell.  Prayers go out to the victims and their families whom have lost their lives in this tragedy.
The 2004
National Kidney Foundation Surfing contest will be held September 4th through the 6th behind Coconuts in Cocoa beach.  The local Surfrider Foundation is holding a contest for the most members in a chapter, so far the New York chapter is in the lead.  The winning chapter will choose two lucky members for a trip to Costa Rica, the runner up will receive a new Surfboard.  September 12th, they will be holding a national paddle for clean water at 10a.m., check the forum for updates.
School is very important, and it can be hard to maintain good grades and stay with the competition scene througout it all.
I'd like to recognize two high school students for thier
exceptionally good grades and great attitudes.  Jimmy Walker of Cocoa Beach and Marissa Guthrie of Sebastian have both maintained a 4.0 grade point average in the previous school year.  If you're not familiar with the high school grading system, a 4.0 is a perfect GPA. Marissa guthrie is an avid competitor in the N.S.S.A, she is also an all confrence high school softball pitcher.  She, amazingly, made the varsity softball team her freshmen year and has carried the team to the district and state finals.

September 2004
Surf expo is coming soon....stay tuned for more information.

2nd light surfers be AWARE!  A Rosenburg personal surfboard was stolen from Josh Rosenburg's very own front yard.  The 6' Carbon Fiber board was found being used by the culprite at our very own 2ndlight a couple weeks after it disappeared.  After being confronted by local, Keith Maxwell, the board was returned immideatly.  The board was accordingly "purchased at a garage sale for $150., although, the culprite could not tell us the location of the sale.  The Rosenburg logo was covered by a tacky variety of Ron Jon stickers.  (nice going slick.)
