The first great adversity set forth towards Kennedy and his administration was in April 1961, when a force of anti-Castro Cubans, who were trained directly by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency failed in an attempt to establish a beachhead in Cuba at the Bay of Pigs. The Soviet Union renewed its campaign against West Berlin, and Kennedy replied by reinforcing the Berlin garrison and increasing the Nation's military strength, including new efforts in outer space. Now the Russians sought to install nuclear missiles in Cuba. When this was discovered, Kennedy imposed a quarantine on all offensive weapons bound for Cuba. The Russians back off and agreed to take the missiles away. The months after the Cuban crisis showed a lot of progress toward the goal of "a world of law and free choice." His administration showed the beginning of new hope for both the equal right of America and the peace of the world.

John F. Kennedy was suddenly assasinated when he went to Texas. Out of nowhere a shot rang through the air that everyone will remember that killed the president while he was riding in his car alongside his wife. That day will life in the memories of everyone that was alive for the occasion and it will remind people to keep fighting the never ending fight for freedom.
