Driver's Test
I took my driver's test back on September 5, 2001, in Geneseo, NY, the day before school started.  I had been practicing down there a couple of times the weeks before (I know that's illegal, but it's history).  Some of you might ask, why Geneseo?  It's a long way from Rochester.  My mom grew up there, so that was the only place out of town that she'd be willing to take me to.  Besides, the places around Rochester were all booked. My mom grew up right down the street from the test site, and she had taken her test down there on September 9, 19__, at 9 in the morning (mine was 10 in the morning).

My mom took a few pictures of my test, and when you see my test giver, you'll wonder how in the world I passed.  She was really stern.  I mean, I asked her a legitimate question, "When I'm doing my parallel park, am I allowed to touch the curb?"  She responded, "You're the driver; you tell me."  I decided not to touch the curbs, just in case. I passed without getting any apparent points off (there weren't any on the slip), even though she warned me about not coming to a complete stop at stop signs (I usually don't do that, but I was nervous) and not being observant at intersections (now I don't see where she got that from; I could see fully in all directions, but of course a passenger's view is different than a driver's).

I made a deal with my mom that if I passed, she'd take me for a meal at Ponderosa, but I was too excited that day to get one, and besides, I finished the test well before lunchtime. So she still owes me.  Of course, there doesn't seem to be any Ponderosas around Rochester anymore (just the one in Geneseo), but if you know about any that I don't, please tell me.
This is the beginning of the test.  She got in the car, asked me a few questions, and we were ready to go.
And we were off!  Since the intersection at the end of North Street is hazardous because it's hard to see both ways, we went down the street in front of the church.  (My mom thinks that the blinking light at the hazardous intersection has been there since she was growing up down there.)  The county courthouse is in the background.
This was the end of my test.  My mom couldn't help but wonder what I had done on my test, because when I got back, the lady was sitting there, waving her arms up and down in the air.  But I passed, and that's all that counts.
