February, 2001

February 24, 2001 Chickasha Bassmasters kicked off their 2001 Tournament season. The day started off nice - the sun was out, not too windy, but it would become a rough start for the year.  After getting on the water at 8:00 a.m., a front came through around 10:00 am or so.  The fishing was slow, to say the least.  About 10:30, it decided to start pouring down rain, even some hail on the north end of the lake.  Most of our 13 participants loaded their boats and sat in their trucks for nearly an hour while the rain and the wind blew down.  The tournament finally got under way again about 11:30 a.m.  It was much colder and a lot windier than before.

The fishing still was not good.  But we had until 4:00 p.m. to catch a fish.  Time passed on as everyone battled the waves and the wind.  The sun finally did make an appearance, but the wind did not back off at all.  It was at weigh-in that we realized noone had a fish to weigh in.  So a slow start to the year, but...everyone's tied for first!
March, 2001

OOOOOKLAHOMA  WHERE THE WIND COMES SWEEPING DOWN THE PLAINS!!!! Texoma was one of the windiest tournaments I think I have ever fished.
Anyway, 23 people showed up to fish, 14 people caught fish.  We had 33 fish weighed for a total of 67.11 pounds. Despite the wind it turned out to be a good tournament for some.
One angler who braved the wind and high waves came out the winner!  Mike Martin was the winner with 5 fish weighing in at 11.37. Mike took home $173 for first place.
Second place went to Courtney Posey with 3 fish weighing 8.86 pounds. Courtney took home $98 for second. Courtney also won Big Bass honors with a fish that weighed 3.93 pounds just edging out Lynn Conaway's fish by .5. Courtney won $115 for Big Bass.
Third went to Micheal Hale with 3 fish that weighed 7.56 pounds. Micheal took home $61 for his efforts. Our first fourth place payed angler was Jason Conaway. Jason had 4 fish that weighed in at 6.11 pounds. Jason took home $37 and was quoted as saying "boy im glad you guys voted in that rule for this year".

With water temps warming and the weather cooperating for once! Arbuckle turned out some great fishing.  When was the last time a 10 pound limit didnt get you a check at Arbuckle thats how good it was for some.  As a club we had 22 anglers show up 18 anglers brought fish to the scales.  5 limits were weighed in. 55 fish were caught for a total of 107.24 pounds
Now thats a day at the lake!!

After it was all said and done Jason Conaway came out on top weighing in a 5 fish limit that went an impressive 15.31 pounds. Jason took home $165.  As impressive as that limit was equally impressive was James Owens' 5 fish limit that weighed in at 15.15 pounds. James took second and pocketed $93. Third place went to Bryan Sims with 5 fish weighing in at 11.82 pounds. Bryan took home $58. Fourth place went to a new member of the club Dan Wallace fishing in his second tournament with us weighed in 5 fish that went 11.53 pounds good for $35.  Big Bass went to Toby Lyons his 5.85 pound largemouth earned him $110.

With  heavy thunderstorms moving through the area on friday night, noone really knew what to expect.  Would the lake still be turned on like all the reports said it was or would the bright sunshine and no real wind to speek of turn the fish off?

23 people showed up to fish the CHICKASHA BASSMASTERS 4th tournament of the year.  there were 60 fish brought to the scales weighing in at 75.12 pounds.  7 limits were caught and only 4 people blanked.  But no one could bring in the big fish over 22 inches.

Well after it was all said and done Gary Williams making his first appearnce to the scales this year came out the winner.  Gary brought in 5 bass weighing 6.52 pounds and pocketed $173 making that first trip to the scales a real good one for him.

Second place went Gary's partner Sonny Richardson.  Sonny caught a 5 bass limit weighing in at 6.22 pounds.  That was good enough to win Sonny $98.

There was a tie for third place Steve Burks and Jason Conaway both came to the scales with 5 bass weighing 6.08 pounds. Both anglers decided against a one hour fish off and agreed to combine third and fourth place money and split it equally. Both anglers pocketed $49, enough to put gas in there pickups to get home.

Big bass honors went to Joel Conaway with a 1.93 pound largemouth.

Well, summer is here and with it comes tougher fishing.  This was certainly true for the Fuqua tournament. With the blue skys and light wind it was certainly hot enough nobody complained about it being cold.  The fishing on the other hand left alot to be desired. With the almost famous history of Fuqua, I was almost disappointed at weigh in, hopeful some one would bring in a fish that would be longer than the funny slot that Fuqua has.  But as the weigh in went on it was evident no one was able to find that big fish but there were a couple of stories of slot fish being caught.  Nothing like letting a 6 or 7 pound fish go in a tournament that only took 5 pounds to win.

26 people showed up to fish the Chickasha Bassmasters 5th tournament of the year (that's a record attendance so far this year).  22 fish were brought to the scales for a total weight of 44.45 pounds.  No limits were caught and 11 people blanked .  Nobody brought in more than 2 fish.

1st place went to Bret Drennan (who?) just kidding.  Bret weighed in two nice fish for a total 5.15 pounds to claim his first win as a Chickasha Bassmaster.  Bret took home a nice pay check for his hard 8 hour day of work $196.  Way to go Bret...Congratulations.

2nd place went to Toby Lyons.  Toby also had 2 nice fish for a total weight of 4.88 pounds. Toby also took advantage of the record number of entrants and pocketed $110 for his efforts
3rd place went to Mr. consistency Jason Conaway.  Jason had 2 fish that just squeezed him into third weighing in at 4.55 pounds.  Jason took home $69

4th place went to Bryan Sims.  Bryan, you guessed it, had 2 fish that weighed in at 4.49 pounds.  Bryan took home $42 for his efforts .

Big Bass went to Bart Drennan.  Bart's fish weighed 3.70 and earned him $130 this was Barts first time in the money as a Chickasha Bassmaster. Way to go Bart!

It was a scorcher for a night tournament.  At least the first 2 or 3 hours until the sun went down, then the bugs came out.  The fishing went well, but the catching left a lot to be desired.  21 people came for the 1st of two night tournaments this year.  There was only 1 limit weighed in.

Whoever said night fishing was easy, must have been fishing for a different species of fish, because those bass were hard to find and when you finally found 'em, catching them was even harder.

Brian Sims seemed to find the most fish with the only limit weighing in with 4.99# .  Toby Lyons had 3 bass that went 3.84#.  A good second place finish.  Third was taken with 2 fish going 2.20# by Johnnie Rodgers.  Mike Martin had the best 1 fish weigh-in good enough for 4th place and Big Bass with a weight of 2.16#

Being summertime, the weather definatley was not cool and comfortable.  The setting sun cooked most of us as shade on the water was limited.  The fishing left a lot to be desired as well.

Somehow finding where some fish were hiding, Brian Sims pulls off a second consecutive night tournament win in the Chickasha Bassmasters night tournament on Chickasha Lake on August 4, 2001.  He only weighed in 2 fish, but it was enough to win first place and had a good fish to take home the Big Bass pot as well.  There were a total of eight (8) fish weighed in for a total weight of 11.13#.  Attendance was a lot higher than quantity of fish weighed in at 19 people.

Brian's winning fish went 3.21# with his big bass weighing at 2.33#.  Second place went to Danny Joslin with 1 fish weighing in at 2.15#  Roy Lowery nearly tied Danny with his one fish that went 2.14#.  Johnnie Rogers finishes out the top 4 of this night tournament with his 2 bass that had a weight of 1.70#

September, 2001

A slight delay in kick-off on Saturday, September 15 on
Lake Thunderbird was just the beginning.  After a little
while of fishing under the clouds, the rains came.  And
they came.  Most of the participants would have been
happy sitting in their trucks.  They weigh-in was the
worst as that is when the rain really came down.

There were 20 club members present to brave the weather.  Only 7 people were able to find a keeper or two to weigh in.  A total of 9 fish weighing in at 22.03 pounds.

                        1st             STEVE BURKS                 5.15 #
                        2nd            BRYAN SIMS                   3.83 #
                        3rd            MIKE MARTIN                 3.73 #
                        4TH           ROY LOWERY                 3.06#

                       BIG BASS    MIKE MARTIN               3.73#

Our Top-6 team came back with 12th place, just short of being in the money, but a lot better than the past couple of years.  We had a wonderful to send this year, I hope that we have one just as good or better for next year.

In light of recent events in New York and Washington, D.C.,
our club collected a $321 donation to the Red Cross out of our
20 participants in Saturday's tournament.

Along with our donation, thoughts and prayers go out to all friends
and families and those that we don't know.
