Mythology
In greek mythology Cronus, (Saturn is the roman equivilent) was the eldest son of Ouranor (Uranus) and Gaias', which means Mother Earth, had 12 sons known as the titans. Cronus castrated his father with an object shaped like a crows bill. (this tid bit will come in later) He the threw the *remains* into the sea, which later resulted in the birth of Aphrodite (Venus) the god of love, mother of Cupid. Cronus' brothers had been trapped by cyclopses and the Hecatoncheries (the monster with 100 heads), and became ruler of the gods.
Cronus' sister Rhea bore him 6 children 3 sons and 3 daughters, and this sort of thing (incest) was common in mythology. After each son was born Cronus ate the child because of a prophecy that one of his children would be his undoing. At the birth of the 6th child Rhea gave Cronus a sack of rocks which she told him was the child that he ate, the child named Zeus thats life was spared by Rhea later made Cronus vomit up all his brothers and sisters and chained him down in the depths of the universe for all eternity.
